Melbourne – Junior Programmer – Audio and Dialogue
*Please note you will need to have working rights in Australia. At this stage, we cannot sponsor a working visa. This is an in-person, on-location, in-studio position.*
Big Ant Studios are looking for a talented and motivated
Junior Programmer
to join our team, with a focus on audio and dialogue systems.
Join us in making some of consoles' and PCs' biggest sports titles from our centrally located Melbourne studio.
We are searching for a junior programmer to help bring the audio and dialogue systems of our sports games to life. You will work on audio implementation, dialogue and commentary systems, integrating and maintaining everything from in-game sound effects and music through to dynamic commentary. Working closely with programmers, designers, audio specialists and other disciplines, you will turn creative requirements into robust technical solutions while building your skills alongside experienced engineers. This is a great opportunity to work on systems that are a highly visible part of the player experience.
Your role will include:
Implementing and maintaining audio features and systems within the game
Integrating sound effects, music, dialogue and other audio assets into gameplay
Working with commentary and dialogue scripts, including the systems that determine when and how lines are triggered during gameplay
Supporting the implementation of dynamic commentary and other reactive audio
Writing and maintaining game code in C++ and Lua
Debugging audio and dialogue issues and identifying their underlying technical causes
Contributing to the tools and workflows used for audio and dialogue implementation
We are looking for someone with experience in:
C++ –
Required
Lua scripting
Developing games or interactive software,
whether professionally, at university or through personal projects
Debugging and problem-solving within a game or software codebase
Extra considerations for working knowledge of:
Game audio middleware such as Wwise or FMOD
Implementing audio in a commercial game engine
Dialogue, VO or commentary systems
Scripting or tools development
Working with large dialogue databases, spreadsheets or scripted content
Sports games or other games with complex reactive commentary systems
Game audio concepts such as events, triggers, states, switches and real-time parameterisation
You don't need to tick every box. If you have a strong programming foundation and a genuine interest in game audio, we'd love to hear from you.

A strong problem solver with great attention to detail, particularly when working with large amounts of dialogue and commentary content
A clear communicator who collaborates well with both technical and creative disciplines
