nThe opportunity n
We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator with strong PostgreSQL and Linux expertise to join our Infrastructure Managed Services team.
n
n
You will help ensure critical database environments remain reliable, secure and optimised. Your work will span database administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability and cross-platform support, including Microsoft SQL Server.
n
n
This role would suit a hands-on database specialist who enjoys troubleshooting complex issues, improving performance and working collaboratively across application and infrastructure teams.
n
nWhat you'll do n
n
Install, configure, upgrade, patch and administer PostgreSQL database environments.
n
Monitor database performance and proactively resolve bottlenecks, slow queries and capacity issues.
n
Design and manage PostgreSQL backup and recovery strategies aligned with agreed recovery objectives.
n
Administer Linux systems supporting database workloads, including performance tuning,



storage management and security hardening.
n
Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server incidents.
n
Manage database security, including user access, roles and auditing.
n
Support Microsoft SQL Server environments across instance administration, patching and backup management.
n
Contribute to database migration and consolidation projects.
n
Maintain database documentation, configuration records, schemas and operational runbooks.
n
Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams on database design and integration requirements.
n
Contribute to disaster-recovery planning and testing.
n
n
nWhat you'll bring n
n
Approximately five to ten years of database administration experience.
n
Strong hands-on PostgreSQL administration experience, including replication, vacuuming, query optimisation and extension management.
n
Solid Linux administration capability across RHEL, CentOS or Ubuntu, including shell scripting and performance tuning.
n
Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server administration, including Always On, backups and SQL Server Agent jobs.
n
Experience with PostgreSQL high-availability technologies such as Patroni, repmgr or pgPool.
n




Strong SQL query-writing skills and experience analysing performance using EXPLAIN plans.
n
Experience with PostgreSQL backup tools such as pgBackRest, pg_dump or Barman.
n
Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring and database alerting tools.
n
Experience working within an ITIL-based service management workplace.
n
Robust analytical, troubleshooting and stakeholder communication skills.
n
Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement based in Ballarat.
n

n
PostgreSQL Professional or Microsoft SQL Server certification.
n
Experience with pgBadger, Nagios or Prometheus.
n
Advanced PostgreSQL configuration and performance-tuning experience.
n
Automation experience using shell scripting or other relevant technologies.
