About the Role
As a newly created position, the
Associate Director, Secretariat
will play a key role in shaping and leading UOW's Secretariat function.
Reporting to the Chief Legal and Assurance Officer & Secretary to Council, the role provides strategic governance leadership and supports the effective operation of the University's key decision-making bodies.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced governance professional to establish and enhance the Secretariat function, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and contribute to the University's governance framework.
The role works closely with senior executives, Council members and stakeholders across the University to ensure the delivery of high-quality governance and secretariat services.
About the Team
This role sits within the Integrity, Legal & Governance Division, a central function responsible for supporting the University's governance, integrity, legal, risk and assurance activities.
The Division partners closely with senior leaders, Council and key stakeholders across the University to support effective decision-making, maintain strong governance frameworks and ensure the University meets its regulatory and legislative obligations.
As part of the Division's leadership team, the Associate Director, Secretariat will play an important role in supporting the University's governance function and contributing to strategic initiatives that strengthen governance practices across the institution.
What You'll Bring
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Relevant tertiary qualifications in governance, law, business, public administration or a related discipline.
Significant experience leading or managing a secretariat, governance or committee support function within a complex organisation.
Demonstrated experience supporting Boards, Councils, Executive Committees or other formal governance bodies.
Strong understanding of governance frameworks, delegations, statutory obligations and regulatory requirements.
Exceptional written communication skills, including experience preparing agendas, minutes, reports, submissions and governance papers for senior decision-makers.
Proven ability to build effective relationships and provide advice to senior executives, committee members and a diverse range of stakeholders.
Robust organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, confidential matters and tight deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and implement effective governance practices.

Employment type: Fixed-term | Full-time 5-year term
Level 10 | Competitive Salary + 12% Superannuation.
