Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation (NNAC) is establishing Narungga Economic Company Ltd (NECL) to drive economic development and wealth creation for the Narungga community.
Independent directors on NECL will join a founding board with one NNAC representative and up to 5 independent directors. The board will govern the company in line with a Strategic Plan and Budget approved by NNAC, and is accountable to NNAC as sole member.
This is a hands‐on founding role. With support from NNAC, the founding directors will lead the incorporation of the entity, the development of its first investment strategy and the recruitment of a General Manager, and set the company up to invest well over the long term. This is a remunerated appointment.
Key responsibilities
Work with NNAC and its lawyers to finalise the company's constitution
Recruit and appoint the company's first General Manager
Develop the company's first investment strategy, for approval by NNAC
Set the company's strategic and commercial direction, and prepare its Strategic Plan and Budget for NNAC approval
Assess investment and commercial opportunities on their merits
Oversee the General Manager and hold management to account
Protect and grow the company's capital through sound oversight of investment, financial performance, risk and compliance
Report on performance of the company to NNAC
About you
We are seeking experienced professionals with at least two of the following skill sets:
Commercial judgement — assessing,



developing or overseeing commercial ventures
Investment management — portfolio strategy, risk and long‐term returns
Financial oversight — budgets, financial statements and financial performance
Governance — board or committee experience and a sound understanding of directors' duties
Networks and partnerships — relationships that can be turned into opportunity
Community and culture — an understanding of Narungga culture, Country and community, and of the Nation's aspirations for economic self‐determination
Candidates for independent director roles must:
not be a current NNAC Director or an employee of NNAC
be eligible to act as a company director, and hold or be willing to obtain a Director ID

Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation (NNAC) is the peak body and Registered Native Title Body Corporate for the Narungga people of Guuranda (Yorke Peninsula), protecting Country, strengthening culture and empowering community to build a solid, self‐sustaining future for the Narungga Nation. Narungga Economic Company Ltd is being established by NNAC as the economic development engine of the Narungga Nation. Its purpose is to drive commercial activity, partnerships and investments that generate lasting economic benefit for Narungga people, including the activation of Narungga‐owned property assets. It will be a not‐for‐profit company limited by guarantee, with NNAC as its sole member.
