The Role
- Reporting to the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions (SPP), the Executive Director – Legal Practice (EDLP), one of two, is a senior enterprise leader and key member of the OPP Executive, accountable for the strategic leadership, performance and long-term capability of the Legal Practice.
- Each EDLP holds executive accountability for the people, performance and delivery of significant functions across the Legal Practice, which may include Trial or Specialist Divisions operating in Melbourne and across Victoria. Specialist portfolios include Higher Court Appeals, County Court Appeals and Contraventions, and the Victims and Witness Assistance Service.
- Operating collectively as an enterprise leadership team, the EDLPs provide strategic counsel to the SPP and work in close partnership with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Chief Crown Prosecutor and senior leaders across the OPP.
- The EDLP represents the OPP with authority and influence across the Victorian criminal justice system, including with the Courts, Victoria Police, the Criminal Bar, the Department of Justice and Community Safety, victim support groups and other key partners.
The Ideal Candidate
- You are an outstanding lawyer with proven success in leading strategy and uplifting performance in a large, complex legal practice.
- You demonstrate insight,
integrity and discretion. A confident communicator, you set transparent direction and apply talent, succession, development and workforce strategies to improve the OPP performance and culture. You are accomplished in managing people, financial and operational resources, using data and risk insight to optimise performance.
- You are capable of building and leveraging strategic relationships within the criminal justice system to influence reform, resolve systemic issues and advance better outcomes.
- You are likely to have significant legal experience in litigation and/or prosecutions and investigations. Experience in criminal law is preferred but not essential. Relevant tertiary qualifications in business and/or management are highly desirable.
- Australian admission and eligibility to hold a Victorian practising certificate is essential.
SES 2: $310,386 to $447,266 including super
