About the role

Are you looking for a once-in-a-generation opportunity? A role where you can say “I helped build Tasmania's future” - and genuinely mean it?

TasNetworks is delivering the largest transformation of Tasmania's transmission network in decades, and the North West Transmission Developments (NWTD) sit at the heart of this landmark program. To support this major infrastructure uplift, we're seeking an experienced Specialist Project SCADA Engineer to help deliver safe, reliable and future-ready transmission assets.

As our Specialist Project SCADA Engineer, you'll lead and coordinate the SCADA, real-time systems, and associated protection/control interfaces across new substations and network upgrades. You'll work across the full project lifecycle - from design and planning through construction, commissioning and handover - ensuring best-practice engineering outcomes and seamless integration with TasNetworks' operational systems.

This is a role with real impact: shaping how Tasmania's transmission network operates for decades to come.

What you'll do

- Lead and coordinate SCADA engineering activities across NWTD and other major transmission projects
- Commission SCADA assets into real-time operational systems, ensuring timely and accurate integration
- Manage configuration, version control and patching of SCADA systems, including outage planning
- Provide specialist technical input across design, planning, approvals, construction, testing and commissioning
- Participate in (and where appropriate lead) design reviews, technical meetings and troubleshooting activities
- Identify, plan and manage SCADA-related engineering deliverables across the full project lifecycle
- Manage engineering risks in line with TasNetworks' risk management framework
- Ensure all engineering deliverables meet Quality Management Plan requirements
- Collaborate closely with NWTD project streams, Operations and the Principal Contractor to ensure clear interfaces and project hold points
- Synthesise complex technical information, identify key issues and implement actions to resolve them
- Support fault investigations, operational issues and real-time system reliability
- Provide clear, concise reporting to internal and external stakeholders

About you

You're a qualified Electrical Engineer or have relevant transferable qualifications with strong experience in SCADA, real-time systems or operational technology within the electricity supply industry. You bring technical depth, strong judgement and the ability to coordinate complex engineering scopes in a fast-paced major project environment.

You'll also bring:

- Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, a qualified electrician with an advanced diploma or relative qualifications
- Experience in project engineering or project management within utility or infrastructure environments
- Applied knowledge of electricity network infrastructure, power system concepts and operational systems
- Real-time or SCADA systems experience relevant to the Electricity Supply Industry
- Understanding of cyber security principles and best practice in OT environments
- Knowledge of contemporary computer, storage, network and virtualisation infrastructure
- Strong communication skills - able to convey complex topics clearly and effectively
- High attention to detail, initiative and problem-solving capability
- Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing project needs
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster for after-hours operational support

You'll be part of a team delivering one of Tasmania's most important energy programs - helping ensure the success of the NWTD and shaping the future of the state's transmission network.
