Permanent / Full Time

Location – Bowen

Base salary between $71,971.55 per annum to $73,543.67 per annum

Plus Locality Allowance + Superannuation

About The Role:

Whitsunday Regional Council is seeking applications for an Open Spaces and Irrigation Maintenance Officer to join the Open Spaces and Cemeteries team in Bowen.

This hands-on role is responsible for maintaining, operating, repairing and improving Council's irrigation infrastructure, while supporting the presentation and upkeep of parks, gardens, sports fields, streetscapes, cemeteries and other open spaces.

What You’ll Be Doing:

- Installing, programming, operating, maintaining and repairing irrigation systems and associated infrastructure.
- Diagnosing and rectifying faults involving controllers, valves, solenoids, sprinklers, pipework, pumps and related components.
- Inspecting irrigation systems, monitoring water use and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and water conservation.




- Maintaining accurate records of irrigation defects, inspections, repairs, maintenance requirements and stock levels.
- Undertaking general grounds maintenance, including garden care, mowing, brush cutting, weed control and routine amenity tasks.
- Assisting with cemetery maintenance, event preparation, irrigation improvement projects, and disaster response and recovery activities as required.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- A current C Class Manual Driver Licence and Construction Safety Induction Card (White Card).
- Demonstrated experience installing, operating, maintaining and repairing irrigation systems, including fault diagnosis.
- The ability to safely operate and maintain plant, equipment and small machinery relevant to open spaces and cemetery operations.
- A strong commitment to safety, teamwork and customer service, with the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
