Shopfitter / Carpenter for Event Builds (AO, Grand Prix)

Hey, I'm Josh. I run JTDODD, a small team building custom structures and joinery for Melbourne's biggest events and brand activations.

If you've been to the Porsche Pavilion at the Grand Prix, had a drink at Club 1905 at the Australian Open, or seen our work in Uniqlo and Witchery stores, you've seen what we do. Everything is made in our Croydon South factory, then we install it on site and bump it out when the event's done.

I'm after a carpenter or shopfitter to join us full time for our busiest stretch, early November to April. If it goes well, you'll have first call on the role next season, and the aim is to make it permanent for the right person.

What you'll be doing

- Building custom joinery, bars, pavilions and display pieces in the factory
- Installing on site at some of Melbourne's biggest events
- Running small crews on site and working with the client's production team
- Putting together CNC-cut parts from our drawings
- Jumping on the welder or the airless spray gun when a job needs it (we'll teach you)

What I'm looking for

- Qualified carpenter,

shopfitter or cabinetmaker, ideally a few years out of your trade
- Shopfitting, exhibition or event build experience is a big plus
- You can read drawings and work to a hard deadline
- Happy in the factory and on site
- You like making things and learning current skills
- White card and driver's licence

What you get

- $45 to $48/hr + super + overtime
- A work ute (2019 BT50) to get to and from jobs
- Work you'll actually want to point out to your mates. Every job is different and most of it ends up in front of thousands of people
- Proper shop drawings for every job, so you know exactly what you're building
- Room to step up and run jobs yourself
- Welding, spraying and CNC skills if you want them
- A small team where you work directly with me, not through layers of management

The honest bit

- Events run to hard deadlines. Most weeks are day hours, but bump-ins mean some early starts, nights and weekends, all paid at award overtime or penalty rates.
