As a key portfolio within the Acute, Subacute and Community Program, our Aboriginal Health unit plays an influential role in supporting Monash Health to better meet the health and wellbeing needs of our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and employees.

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager, Monash Health Community, and leading a small team, you will provide strategic leadership and operational management of the Aboriginal Health Directorate.

- Ensuring our Executive and their nominated managers are appropriately advised on Aboriginal health matters
- Implementation and development of our Reconciliation Action Plan, including periodic reporting against identified key metrics
- Establishing and maintaining solid engagement with key internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of culturally sensitive services
- Identifying areas for improvement in how our services can be better delivered

About you

Degree qualified in health, social sciences, business management or similar, you are intimately aware of the issues impacting Aboriginal healthcare, employment, education and culture. Known as a consultative and effective senior leader, you have demonstrated ability to translate strategic objectives into effective operational performance. In addition, you have proven experience working with local Aboriginal communities to achieve workplace goals.

You lead by example, are a natural role model and inspire your people to perform at their best every day. In addition, you can readily demonstrate:

- Your understanding of and support for the development of Aboriginal health and wellbeing within a health, community, justice or education organisation
- Excellent influencing, interpersonal, facilitation, presentation and consultation skills




- Highly developed written communication and report writing skills appropriate to a range of audiences
- Up to date knowledge of contemporary issues in healthcare
- A keen understanding of process improvement and change management methodologies enabling service implementation and development

Experience working in mainstream health services and Aboriginal community services is preferred. An understanding of planning and advancing research in the work setting and postgraduate qualifications in management, leadership or public health, or progressing towards, will be highly regarded.
