You don't need to be the best engineer in the room, but you need to know how to make the whole business perform better.

This established Sydney engineering consultancy is looking for a General Manager / COO to work alongside its directors and take genuine responsibility for the commercial and operational performance of the business.

The technical leaders know engineering. Your role is broader, bringing together the people, finances, resources, systems and accountability that allow them to perform.

WHAT WILL YOU ACTUALLY OWN?

- Day-to-day operational leadership across the consultancy.
- Financial performance, budgets, forecasting and commercial visibility.
- Resource planning, ensuring people and workload are properly aligned.
- Business systems, reporting, processes and accountability.
- Supporting managers to lead stronger, more effective teams.
- Identifying operational problems before they become business problems.
- Turning Directors' strategy into measurable action and outcomes.
- Helping build the structure required for the consultancy's next stage of growth.

This isn't a position for someone who simply reports what has happened.

It's for someone who makes things happen.

WHO COULD DO IT?

You may already be a General Manager, COO, Operations Manager,



Commercial Manager or senior business leader within engineering, construction, infrastructure or a related professional-services environment from the engineering space.

You do not need to be an engineer.

What matters is that you understand how a professional business operates, people, money, utilisation, project commitments, clients and performance, and have the judgement and credibility to work effectively with senior technical professionals.

You will need strong commercial and financial capability, but equally important is the ability to bring people with you when introducing change.

WHY MOVE?

Because some senior management positions give you responsibility without giving you the authority to change very much.

This one is about influence.

You’ll work directly with the Directors, have visibility across the whole consultancy and be able to see the impact of your decisions, financially, operationally and through the performance of its people.
