About the role

We are recruiting a dual registered Nurse and Midwife to join a community-based maternal and child health service in Walgett, north-western NSW. This is a great opportunity to work in Aboriginal health, supporting women and families through pregnancy, birth and the early years of a child's life.

You will provide antenatal and postnatal care, child and family health checks and ongoing support in a community where relationships and trust are central to positive outcomes. The service works closely with the local Aboriginal community, so a respectful, culturally safe approach to care is essential.

This role suits a midwife who wants to work to their full scope in a rural setting, build lasting connections with families and see the real difference consistent care makes over time.

Key responsibilities

You will provide antenatal care including assessments, education and care planning, and deliver postnatal care and home visiting for mothers and newborns. You will conduct child health and development checks, immunisations and growth monitoring, and support breastfeeding, infant feeding, sleep and settling, and parenting. The role includes identifying risk early and referring to GPs, obstetric services, allied health and social support as needed, maintaining accurate clinical documentation, and working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team and community services.

About you

You will hold current registration as both a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife, and ideally have child and family health experience or a willingness to develop it. Rural, remote or Aboriginal health experience is highly regarded. You will need a current driver's licence and the ability to work independently while knowing when to escape. Above all, you will bring a genuine commitment to culturally safe, family-centred care.

Remuneration

Up to $75 per hour (approx. $148,200 per annum) plus superannuation.

Salary packaging

Package up to $15,900 of everyday living expenses tax-free, plus a further $2,650 for meals and entertainment, saving up to around $7,000 a year in tax.

Hours

Regular weekday clinic hours.

Accommodation

Subsidised two-bedroom accommodation at $180 per week.

Relocation support

A relocation package of up to $5,500 to help with your move to Walgett.

Flexible arrangements

Potential fly in fly out arrangements, with permanent full time or fixed term contract options for those wanting to experience rural practice before committing.
