Coating / Painting QC Inspector - Offshore Jacket Fabrication
As part of a major offshore energy project, we are looking for an experienced Coating / Painting QC Inspector to support the fabrication of large offshore jacket structures in Newcastle, United Kingdom. This is a long-term site-based assignment within a fabrication yard environment, involving the quality surveillance and inspection of all coating and painting activities throughout the fabrication process.
Position Overview
Working closely with the project Quality team and reporting to the QC Lead Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring that all surface preparation, painting and protective coating activities are performed in accordance with project specifications, approved procedures and applicable international standards. You will act as the Coating QC specialist on site, working directly with contractors and fabrication teams to ensure compliance, identify quality issues and follow corrective actions through to closure.
Key Responsibilities
Perform inspection and surveillance of surface preparation, blasting, painting and coating activities.
Verify environmental conditions prior to and during coating application, including temperature, humidity and dew point.
Inspect surface cleanliness and preparation in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards.
Monitor coating application and verify Wet Film Thickness (WFT) and Dry Film Thickness (DFT).
Verify paint and coating material storage conditions, shelf life and material certificates.
Review equipment calibration certificates and inspection documentation.
Perform inspections in accordance with approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and project procedures.
Review coating inspection reports, quality records and contractor documentation.
Identify non-conformities and issue or follow up NCRs and corrective actions when required.
Monitor repairs and coating touch-ups through to final acceptance.
Ensure compliance with project specifications, paint manufacturer requirements and relevant international standards.
Coordinate closely with fabrication teams, contractors and other QC disciplines.
Provide regular reporting and promptly elevate significant quality issues to the project Quality team.
Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in coating / painting inspection, ideally with 10 to 15 years of overall experience on major industrial projects.
Strong experience in offshore fabrication, ideally involving jackets or large offshore steel structures.
Previous experience working within a fabrication yard setting.
Solid knowledge of surface preparation, abrasive blasting, protective coating systems and coating inspection techniques.
Good understanding of international coating standards, including ISO 8501, ISO 11124, ISO 16276, ISO 12944 and NORSOK M-501.
Experience with ITPs, inspection reports, NCR management and quality documentation.
Ability to work autonomously and challenge contractors when quality requirements are not met.
Strong Quality and HSE mindset.
Fluent English and ability to work effectively in an international project environment.
