ROLE SNAPSHOT
Role: Business Development Manager - Communications
Location: South West Sydney, Hybrid After Induction, Covering NSW
Employment: Permanent - Full Time
Industry: Specialist Communications Equipment
Reports to: Regional Sales Manager
Package: Competitive Base, Car Allowance, Superannuation & A Quarterly Commission Scheme Weighted To Long-Term Rental & Managed Service Revenue
Why You Will Be Excited About This Role
This is a business development role with a warm start. You inherit an established New South Wales customer base, not a blank page, and your job is to grow it. You will sell communications and safety technology that customers genuinely depend on, from two-way radio and Push to Talk systems to body worn cameras, pedestrian detection and nurse call and evacuation systems.
Your earnings are tied to building long-term rental and managed service revenue, so the book you create keeps paying you month after month rather than resetting to zero each quarter. You will work for an established specialist equipment business with more than 50 years behind it and a robust position in its market, backed by a technical team you can bring in early and a manager who wants you out in front of customers.
- Start warm, taking on an established NSW customer list with a supported handover rather than a cold patch
- Build annuity income, with commission that rewards long-term rental and managed service so your revenue carries forward
- Sell technology that matters, to customers who cannot afford for communication to fail
- Own your territory across Sydney and NSW, with the freedom to plan your week around customer time
- Grow with real backing from technical, coordination and warehouse teams who help you deliver what you promise
- Make your mark in a stable, long-established business with room to shape the territory
Why You Will Like Working Here
Our client is an established specialist in communications,
safety and test and measurement equipment, with more than 50 years of history and teams across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Its Communications and Safety division runs on a simple idea: safety first, efficiency always. You will join a business that takes its customer promises seriously and backs its salespeople to keep them.
- A genuine team approach, with sales, technical, coordination and warehouse working as one
- Real support on complex deals, with the technical team and your manager brought in early
- A long-established, financially stable business and a respected name in its market
- A clear focus on doing right by customers, colleagues and safety
- A structured path to success, mapped across your first 90 days, six months and twelve months
- Continual investment in equipment and capability, so you always have the right solution to sell
What You Will Be Working On
You will plan and grow the Communications and Safety business across New South Wales, balancing account management on the inherited base with disciplined new business hunting.
- Growing an inherited NSW customer base across short-term rental, long-term rental and sales
- Converting transactional buyers into long-term rental and managed service agreements where usage supports it
- Hunting new business across facility management, construction, events, security, government, education, data centres and more
- Opening and qualifying solution sales: repeater and coverage systems, Push to Talk over Cellular and LTE, pedestrian detection, body worn cameras,
and nurse call and evacuation systems
- Staying visible in the market, out on site and face to face, rather than running the territory from a desk
- Working with RF technicians and the technical team on site surveys, coverage assessments and deployments
- Quoting, negotiating and closing within your commercial authority while protecting margin, and keeping clean pipeline and CRM records
What Type of Person Will Be Successful
You will do well here if you enjoy the hunt, you are comfortable out in front of customers, and you can keep many opportunities moving at once.
- Proven business to business development, winning new business and growing existing accounts
- Sydney based, with working knowledge of the NSW market and who buys communications and safety equipment across it
- Confident at prospecting, cold calling and door opening, with a real preference for being in front of customers
- Commercially sharp across pricing, margin and the difference between a rental, a managed service agreement and a sale
- Able to juggle a high volume of concurrent opportunities with genuine pipeline discipline
- Holds a current NSW driver licence and unrestricted Australian working rights
Experience in two-way radio, land mobile radio, Push to Talk over Cellular or wider enterprise communications is well regarded, though not essential.
Our client will also consider strong candidates from adjacent enterprise and technical communications markets where the drive, commercial instinct and customer skills are clear, accepting a learning curve on two-way radio product.
Attitude, enthusiasm and the ability to open doors carry real weight here.
If you have been looking at roles such as Business Development Manager, Account Manager, Territory Manager or Sales Executive in communications, safety, test and measurement or equipment rental, this is well worth a look.
