CYC Forest Edge is looking for an experienced Cook to help provide delicious, nutritious, and visually appealing meals for our guests. This is an opportunity to use your cooking skills in a welcoming, purpose-driven environment—away from the routine of a traditional restaurant kitchen.
About CYC Forest Edge
Set across a beautiful 120-acre property on the banks of the Latrobe River, CYC Forest Edge welcomes more than 200 guests at a time throughout the year.
We host a wide variety of school, church and community groups—from high-energy adventure camps to relaxing retreats. Our Catering Team plays an important part in every guest’s stay by providing quality meals, friendly attentive service, all in a clean and welcoming environment.
About the role
Reporting to the Head of Catering, you will prepare and serve meals in accordance with planned menus, dietary requirements and CYC Forest Edge’s food-safety program.
This is a hands-on cooking role suited to someone who enjoys variety, works well as part of a team, and takes pride in serving quality food to large groups.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and cooking meals according to planned menus
- Managing special dietary requirements carefully and confidently
- Communicating with guests and group leaders about dietary needs
- Monitoring the quality, presentation and timely service of meals
- Maintaining clean, safe and organised kitchen and food-service areas
- Following food-safety, cleaning and kitchen-maintenance procedures
- Contributing ideas for new menu items and improvements
- Supporting, guiding and mentoring other kitchen team members
- Providing friendly and skilled service to guests
About you
You are a capable and organised Cook who enjoys working with people and contributing to a positive team environment. You take pride in preparing quality meals, remain calm when catering for large groups, and understand the importance of food safety and dietary requirements.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen and/or a relevant cookery qualification
- A sound understanding of food-safety practices
- Experience accommodating allergies, intolerances and special diets
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- A friendly, guest-focused approach
- The ability to work efficiently and manage competing priorities
- A willingness to support and encourage other team members
- Availability to work a flexible roster, including some evenings, weekends and public holidays
You will also need:
- A current Victorian Employee Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one
- Valid rights to work in Australia
