Your Opportunity
As a Child & Family Practitioner in our Targeted Early Intervention / Foundations for Young Parents program, you will work alongside young parents and their children to build parenting confidence, strengthen family relationships and support safe, positive outcomes.
Using strengths-based, trauma-informed and child-centred practice, you will undertake comprehensive assessments and work collaboratively with families to develop practical, achievable plans. You will also connect families with community and specialist services that respond to their individual needs. The broader position purpose includes improving parenting capacity, strengthening family resilience and functioning, increasing children’s safety and reducing the risk of children entering out-of-home care.
This is a part-time, fixed-term opportunity working 30 hours per week until 30 June 2027, providing coverage for an employee secondment.
How You Will Contribute
- Engage young parents, children and families through respectful,
strengths-based assessment and risk-minimisation processes.
- Undertake comprehensive assessments and develop, implement, monitor and review family-led client plans.
- Provide regular casework support as the family’s key worker, including contact visits and practical assistance.
- Coordinate support with government agencies, schools, health services, GPs, allied health professionals and other community service providers.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate relevant groups and workshops where required.
- Maintain timely, clear and accurate case notes, reports and other client documentation, escalating child-safety or wellbeing concerns appropriately.

Your Skills and Experience?
We want you to be successful in your new role! This means you'll have:
- A degree qualification in social work, early childhood, psychology or a similar field.
- At least 12 months’ case-management experience working with at-risk children, young people and/or families in a child-protection-focused role, including experience completing comprehensive assessments.
- A robust understanding of child-protection issues, trauma and vulnerabilities including domestic and family violence, mental health concerns and alcohol or other drug use.
- The ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, culturally and linguistically diverse communities and people with diverse identities and lived experiences.
- Strong written and verbal communication, relationship-building and stakeholder-engagement skills.
- The capacity to work flexibly and travel to clients and other service locations, together with the required working-with-children clearance.
