ABOUT THE ROLE

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

As the Leadership + Organising Coordinator, you use a community organising approach to grow leadership across the full breadth of the movement, including activists, lived experience communities, young people, groups and partners. You build a leadership pathway with wide entry points, using training, coaching and a train-the-trainer approach to scale capability. Working with Campaign Organisers, Mobilisers, Communications, and the Youth and Human Rights Education (HRE) Coordinators, you ensure the leaders you develop strengthen campaigns, autonomous activism and AIA’s democratic governance.

KEY DUTIES

- Develop and deliver engaging activist training programs, applying a train-the-trainer approach to support activist capability and human rights impact.
- Maintain the training syllabus, resources, and the activist onboarding module, to keep content relevant and campaign-aligned.
- Support and mentor key activist leadership structures such as activism leadership committees to ensure they have strategic sustainable plans aligned with the goals of the people powered strategy
- Support the identification and development of activist leaders across the full breadth of the movement, contributing to autonomous activism tied to campaign outcomes.
- Support activist leaders to effectively use digital tools by providing guidance, resources, and coordination of assistance as needed.
- Collaborate with the Human Rights Education (HRE) Coordinator, Youth Coordinator and other internal stakeholders and contribute to the planning and delivery of education and development initiatives.
- Coordinate with Campaign Organisers to integrate training into campaign plans and ensure accessibility for activists, communities and partners.
- Build and grow partnerships with external partners, lived experience communities, university groups and networks expanding reach and scale of our training program.
- Support activist participation in AIA’s democratic governance structures by assisting with coordination, communication, and follow-up activities.
- Maintain relationships with regional stakeholders, including Asia Pacific sections,



to share learning and support program development.
- Support the resolution of issues and conflicts by applying organisational procedures, communicating effectively, and escalating where appropriate.
- Contribute to the delivery of activities outside standard hours, including training sessions and events, to meet the needs of activists and organisational priorities.
- Undertake other tasks within skill and competence as required, performing routine tasks with supervision and escalating issues as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS + EXPERIENCE

- Demonstrated experience supporting, delivering, and contributing to training programs that build activist capability, engagement and impact.
- Experience assisting activist leaders to organise activities and implement plans that strengthen sustainable, autonomous leadership structures.
- Experience applying community organising approaches to support participation, develop activist networks and connect skills to campaign priorities.
- Proven ability to facilitate, , and support individuals and groups in capability development.
- Ability to build relationships with external partners, lived experience communities, university groups and networks to grow the reach of our training.
- Experience using CRM systems and digital tools to support coordination, record-keeping, and engagement activities.
- Experience preparing and delivering communications through various channels tailored to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to organise work, manage priorities, and deliver tasks within agreed timelines and organisational frameworks.
- Ability to support conflict resolution by applying judgement, following procedures, and escalating when needed.

Department: Community Engagement + Organising team (PPCU)

Location: Based in any Action Centre.



The role may involve interstate/regional travel and requires out of standard hours work.

Employment: Permanent, full-time position, Level 5

Reports to: Community Engagement + Organising Manager
