Are you an experienced Disability Support Worker who is confident supporting people with complex needs, behaviours of concern and co-existing intellectual disability and mental health conditions?

ARC Disability is a community-based organisation with over 50 years of experience supporting children and adults with disability, their families and support networks throughout Cairns.

We are seeking experienced Casual Disability Support Workers to provide person-centred support to Participants with dual diagnosis presentations, including intellectual disability and co-existing mental health conditions.

This is a rewarding role for Support Workers who are confident working with complex support needs, psychosocial disability, emotional dysregulation and behaviours of concern.

About the Role

You will provide practical and emotional support to participants in their homes and the community, helping them achieve their goals, develop independence and participate in everyday life.

You may support participants with:

- Home and Living supports
- Community access and social participation
- Personal care and daily living activities
- Medication assistance
- Positive Behaviour Support strategies
- Mental health and emotional wellbeing
- Meal preparation, shopping and household tasks
- Transport to appointments and community activities
- Documentation, case notes and reporting

Key Responsibilities

- Provide personal care and support with daily living activities
- Support participants to access the community and participate in social activities
- Implement Positive Behaviour Support Plans and other support strategies
- Support participants experiencing mental health challenges and changes in wellbeing
- Assist participants with emotional regulation and behaviours of concern
- Maintain accurate case notes, documentation and reporting




- Follow participant support plans and relevant organisational procedures
- Work collaboratively with participants, families, allied health professionals and other support networks
- Promote participant choice, independence, dignity and quality of life
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality
- Identify and respond appropriately to changes in participant needs and wellbeing

About You We are looking for Support Workers who have:

- Demonstrated experience supporting people with intellectual disability and co-existing mental health conditions
- Experience supporting people with complex behavioural and psychosocial needs
- Experience implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans
- Experience supporting behaviours of concern
- Strong communication, de-escalation and problem-solving skills
- The ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- An understanding of trauma-informed and person-centred support
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to work across a range of shifts and support environments
- The ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries

Experience in dual diagnosis support is essential for this position.

Essential Requirements

- Current Queensland Driver Licence
- Registered and comprehensively insured vehicle
- Current Blue Card or ability to obtain
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance or ability to obtain
- Australian working rights
- Ability to meet organisational pre-employment screening requirements, including drug and alcohol testing where applicable

Highly Regarded

- Mental Health First Aid qualification or similar training
- Additional training or experience in Positive Behaviour Support, psychosocial disability or complex support
