APS6 regulatory officers contribute to the delivery of regulatory, operational and reform activities within the Medical Devices Authorisation Branch. Regulatory officers are expected to exercise initiative, sound judgement and accountability in delivering outcomes and may be assigned duties based on business and operational requirements.

Successful candidates will be placed in a merit pool and may be considered for roles across a range of functions within the Medical Devices Authorisations Branch, including regulatory assessment of medical devices (including IVD’s), regulatory operations, policy and reform, stakeholder engagement, data and business improvement activities.

Key capabilities

- Solid analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to interpret legislation, policy, technical information and evidence.
- Sound judgement and the ability to make or contribute to complex regulatory, operational or policy decisions.
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear briefs, reports, correspondence and decision documents.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to a range of audiences.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.




- A commitment to continuous improvement and contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- An understanding of, or ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, regulatory frameworks and government decision-making processes.

- To be eligible for employment with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time an offer of employment is made.
- An applicant’s suitability for employment with Health will also be assessed through a variety of pre-employment check processes, such as:
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal history check, and where relevant, a Working with Children and Vulnerable People Check,
- Completion of a medical declaration and pre-employment medical (where required),
- Providing evidence of qualifications (where required).

- This recruitment process is being used to fill both ongoing and non-ongoing positions. Non-ongoing positions will be offered on a specified term basis for an initial period of up to 12 months with the possibility of being extended (this will not exceed a total of 24 months in the same or similar role).
