English & Humanities and Social Sciences (Year 7/8 Middle School Teacher)
- Commencing January 2027
- 12-month, fixed-term (0.6-0.8 FTE) contract
- Join a supportive community
We are a Uniting Church day and boarding school, established in 1923. We provide a caring community, underpinned by strong Christian values, within which our students and staff are encouraged to achieve their individual potential. Our commitment to equity and inclusion across race, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, identity and experience drives us forward every day. In preparation for the 2027 school year, we require experienced and talented teachers for a one-year appointment within the Middle School, specialising in English / Humanities and Social Sciences in Year 7 and/or Year 8. This 0.6-0.8FTE position will commence in Term 1, 2027.
We provide an environment of support and challenge that nurtures our students and facilitates their emerging independence. Our Middle School acts as a bridge that provides a smooth transition to Senior School.
Wesley College’s unique structure incorporates a Middle School for the adolescent years (Year 5 through to Year 8), which promotes self-confidence and a growing sense of responsibility, with a stimulating and rigorous academic program. To support the rapid physical and cognitive development that occurs as students mature between these years, our Middle School prioritises relationships. By developing strong relationships with each child — through more attention from fewer teachers — we provide learning environments and opportunities that meet the specific needs of each child.
Our community extends beyond the teacher and the student to the family and we pride ourselves on having strong connections with all stakeholders.
As well as a focus on academic success for each child, we provide a wealth of cross-curricular, extra-curricular, and multidisciplinary opportunities — both in classrooms and across our community. Our flagship Katitjin program is one example of the ways in which we help students develop self-awareness, attention to social justice and leadership capabilities.
Our ideal candidate will
- be a qualified teacher, with TRBWA clearance, and be able to teach in Western Australia;
- have the ability to teach Years 7 through to 8 and potentially upper years, specialising in English as well as Humanities and Social Sciences in a Middle School Team teaching structure;
- be able to manage the pastoral, behavioural, academic and social needs of a Year 7 or Year 8 Tutor Group;
- be able to work effectively in a team environment;
- be a positive, hard-working, cooperative and flexible professional;
- demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills in interactions with colleagues, parents as well as students;
- be able to apply sound pedagogical principles in the classroom including creative and critical thinking tools;
- be confident utilising and facilitating the use of technology in the classroom;
- have experience in effectively managing the pastoral needs of students.
Significant participation in the pastoral, co-curricular and sporting life of the school is expected, including on camps. In addition to a vibrant and caring community as your work environment, we offer attractive employment benefits, including competitive remuneration.
The closing date for applications is 4.00pm, Sunday 11 October 2026. Your application should consist of a covering letter addressing the above criteria and a current resume, including at least two referees who can comment on your work performance.
