The Role

Reporting to the Manager Risk, Compliance and Assurance, the Operations Risk Specialist is responsible for implementing and continuously improving the regional risk management framework across a complex operational footprint.

This is not a desk-bound compliance role. It requires genuine engagement at site level, earning the trust of operational teams on the ground, and then translating those findings into clear trend analysis and direction for the executive team. The person who navigates that range well, from engineers on-site through to executive reporting, is exactly who this role is built for.

The risk framework is also being built at the same time it is being rolled out, which means priorities shift, scope evolves and the right person adapts rather than waits for everything to be settled before they act.

One more signal worth noting: the person who sat in this exact seat two years ago has since been promoted into the manager role directly above it. This is a seat with a demonstrated path up.

Duties will include, but not be limited to:





- Implementing and managing the regional risk management systems and processes, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations
- Leading continuous improvement of standardised risk management processes, aligned to the broader regional risk framework
- Providing oversight and trend analysis of business unit material risks, including management of the highest-rated risks across the region
- Identifying critical controls for material risks and maintaining the critical control management program, including Critical Control Verifications
- Supporting and influencing business unit ownership of safety and risk operating plans
- Leading development and continual improvement of the Operations Risk Management Program
- Supporting Major Hazard Facility sites with safety case development and ongoing documentation
- Advising and supporting regions and operations on implementing risk management systems, procedures and policies
- Developing risk and safety system processes and documentation with business stakeholders to lift risk maturity across the region
- Liaising with risk professionals across the broader global business to share best practice and learnings
- Representing Operational Risk through participation in Operations Risk Management delivery groups

About You You are an experienced operations risk professional who is equally comfortable on a mining site and in front of an executive team, and you know the difference between how you communicate with each. You do not need a fully defined scope to operate effectively. You understand that in a business actively building its risk framework, the work itself will shape you as much as you shape it, and that suits you rather than unsettling you.

You earn trust at site level through genuine technical credibility and practical engagement, not by arriving with a clipboard.



You translate what you find on the ground into meaningful trend analysis and direction that senior stakeholders can act on. You are comfortable managing the highest-rated risks in the business with the scrutiny that comes with it, and you bring the judgement to know when to escalate, when to adapt and when to hold the line.

Skills & Experience To be effective in this role, you will likely bring:

- Relevant tertiary qualifications in risk, safety, engineering or a related discipline
- Solid experience in operational risk, safety management or a related discipline within a complex, operational or resources environment
- Demonstrated ability to implement and improve risk management frameworks, systems and processes
- Experience with critical control management and Major Hazard Facility environments well regarded
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across both operational site teams and executive level audiences
- The ability to translate risk data and site findings into explicit, actionable trend analysis and reporting
- Comfort working in an evolving environment where frameworks are being built as well as delivered
- Familiarity with risk management platforms such as RiskView, Cintellate or similar systems well regarded
