The Company
Our client is a well-established Australian organization undertaking a significant cyber security and infrastructure uplift. As part of this initiative, they are implementing CIS Benchmark Level 1 server hardening across their Windows and Linux server estate to improve security, consistency and operational resilience.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced OS Hardening Engineer to support the implementation of CIS Benchmark Level 1 server hardening controls across a large Windows and Linux environment.
You will work closely with Cloud Infrastructure teams, Cyber Security specialists, application owners and project stakeholders to implement approved hardening controls through Puppet automation and GitHub-managed change processes. You will play a key role in testing, validating and deploying secure server baselines while ensuring business applications and services continue to operate effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement CIS Benchmark Level 1 hardening controls across Windows and Linux servers
- Translate approved security controls into maintainable Puppet configurations
- Manage infrastructure changes through GitHub pull requests and version-controlled deployments
- Collaborate with Infrastructure, Cyber Security and application teams throughout implementation activities
- Test, validate and deploy hardening controls across enterprise environments
- Assess operational and application impacts of security control implementation
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues introduced by hardening activities
- Support documentation, change management and deployment processes
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of infrastructure security standards
Essential Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience hardening Windows and Linux operating systems
- Robust understanding of CIS Benchmarks and security baseline implementation
- Hands-on experience with Puppet or similar configuration management tools
- Experience working with GitHub and pull request workflows
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
- Experience assessing operational and application impacts of infrastructure changes
- Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong communication and documentation skills
