Our client is a major Queensland critical infrastructure organisation responsible for delivering essential services to communities across the state.
Their
Digital, Technology and Information function is responsible for enabling secure, resilient and innovative technology across complex operational environments. As part of the cyber security function, this is an chance for an experienced OT Cyber Security Engineer/ Specialist to provide technical authority across operational technology environments, helping strengthen cyber resilience, assurance and secure engineering practices across the full asset lifecycle.
The Role
As the OT Cyber Assurance & Solutions Specialist, you’ll provide senior technical leadership across OT cyber security engineering, assurance and risk management. You’ll work closely with engineering, operations, technology, risk, vendors and senior stakeholders to ensure critical OT environments are securely designed, assessed and operated. You’ll play a key role in developing OT cyber security standards and architecture, leading risk assessments and assurance activities, advising on complex technical risks and embedding secure-by-design principles across OT environments.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead OT cyber security engineering assurance across the full asset lifecycle
- Act as a technical authority on OT cyber security, providing expert advice to senior stakeholders
- Develop and maintain OT cyber security policies, standards and architecture patterns
- Embed secure-by-design principles across operational technology and industrial control environments
- Lead OT cyber risk assessments, threat modelling and control validation
- Develop risk treatment recommendations and support risk acceptance processes
- Interpret and apply relevant cyber security legislation, standards and regulatory requirements
- Apply frameworks including IEC 62443, NIST CSF, SOCI Act and QG IS18
- Provide cyber security assurance and technical oversight of OT vendors and system integrators
- Review OT architectures, designs and engineering solutions from a cyber security perspective
- Lead and coordinate complex OT cyber security initiatives across engineering, operations and technology teams
- Provide OT cyber security input into incident preparedness, response and recovery
- Identify opportunities to improve OT cyber security maturity, resilience and capability
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to drive secure and practical outcomes
- Provide technical guidance and influence secure outcomes without direct people management
- Represent the organisation across relevant industry, government and critical infrastructure forums
What you'll bring
- Current RPEQ registration
- Extensive experience in OT cyber security engineering and risk management
- Strong experience across OT, ICS, SCADA or industrial control environments
- Demonstrated experience with secure OT design, assurance and operational security
- Strong understanding and practical application of IEC 62443 and NIST CSF
- Understanding of SOCI Act, QG IS18 and critical infrastructure cyber security requirements
- Experience conducting OT cyber risk assessments, threat modelling and control validation
- Demonstrated ability to translate cyber security requirements into practical engineering outcomes
- Strong experience engaging with senior stakeholders across engineering, operations, technology and risk
- Proven ability to lead complex multidisciplinary initiatives without direct authority
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Experience within water, energy, utilities, mining, transport or other critical infrastructure environments will be highly regarded. Certifications such as GICSP, IEC 62443 Practitioner/Expert, CISSP-ISA or equivalent will also be viewed favourably. What’s in it for you?
