Primary objective
Provide a first point of contact for approved Patient Assistance Travel Scheme (PATS) patients and Renal Services patients who require transport assistance across Alice Springs Hospital and Community Haemodialysis services. Act as a Team Leader to the Patient Transport Officers, communicate transport needs with stakeholders and drivers, coordinate transport movements, and collate daily transport schedules to ensure equitable and safe access to healthcare.
Context Statement The Transport Logistics and Warehousing Division provides NT Health's transport framework. Within this,
the Patient Travel and ASH Ground Transport function in Central Australia and Barkly coordinates essential travel and accommodation support for approved clients accessing PATS, ensuring services are delivered efficiently and in accordance with guidelines.
The Patient Transport
Coordinator is critical in ensuring effective communication between patients, clinical teams, transport providers, and PATS staff to support continuity of care.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Act as a Team Leader for the Patient Transport Officers, providing daily guidance, support, and operational oversight to maintain high-quality service
delivery.
1. Coordinate and schedule patient transport services for Alice Springs Hospital, the Renal Haemodialysis Unit (Flynn Drive), and PATS patients in Alice
Springs and surrounding areas.
1. Create transport and appointment schedules using databases and shared email inboxes, allocating daily run sheets to ground transport drivers via two-
way radio and phone to optimise scheduling.
1. Act as the primary point of contact for patients, drivers, clinical staff, PATS officers, and accommodation providers, ensuring culturally appropriate
communication.
1. Liaise daily with renal Team Leaders and Coordinators to optimise the timely utilisation of renal chairs.
2. Liaise with NT Fleet to book and manage ASH Ground Transport vehicles, ensuring they are roadworthy, comply with maintenance programs, and that
daily vehicle checks are maintained.
1. Monitor service quality and report daily operational issues, risks, or complaints to the Regional Transport Logistics Coordinator.

Follow defined service quality standards and Work Health and Safety policies to ensure a safe workplace and foster a positive culture through exemplary
leadership and role modelling.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to act as a Team Leader, providing direction, support, and workload management for Patient Transport Officers and drivers in a
busy operational workplace.
1. Demonstrated cross-cultural awareness and ability to build respectful, effective working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
2. Proven organisational, time management, and administrative skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, prioritise urgent requests, and
meet deadlines.
1. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deal effectively and confidently with clients, clinical staff, and
government/non-government stakeholders.
1. Proven ability to manage a fleet of vehicles, including maintenance bookings, fault reporting, and liaising collaboratively with NT Fleet and the Regional
Transport Logistics Coordinator.
1. Demonstrated computer literacy skills and experience using databases, spreadsheets, and scheduling/transport systems, ensuring high attention to
detail in records management.
1. The ability to understand transport logistics and communicate efficiently via two-way radio.
