About This Role
Your new role
As a Carer Peer Support Worker, you will use your own lived/living experience as a carer of a person experiencing mental health issues to provide hope, practical support and guidance to carers and families of consumers receiving care in an acute adult inpatient setting.
- Provide individual and group peer support, education, advocacy and information to carers and families, drawing on your own lived/living experience of supporting someone with mental health and/or addiction issues.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to strengthen carer and family engagement, promote recovery-focused practice and improve outcomes for consumers, carers and families.
- Develop and co-facilitate peer-led support groups, education and skills-training programs, while identifying opportunities to make inpatient services more carer- and family-inclusive.
About You We are looking for a compassionate and collaborative person who can draw on their personal lived/living experience to support and empower other carers and families throughout their mental health journey.
- You have personal lived/living experience as a carer of a person experiencing mental health issues and can use this experience appropriately to foster hope, recovery and resilience in others.
- You are confident providing peer support, advocacy, education and group facilitation, and can build respectful relationships with carers, families, consumers,
staff and community partners.
- You work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, understand the importance of professional boundaries and peer work values, and demonstrate a commitment to safe, respectful and inclusive practice.

hospital-based and community mental health and community alcohol and drug services for all age groups across a number of campuses.
