Rural and Remote Mental Health (RRMH) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving mental health and wellbeing in rural and remote communities. Through our training programs and psychosocial support services, we work alongside individuals, families, and communities to build resilience, connection, recovery, and meaningful lives.
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Peer Worker to join our team on a part time basis.
About the Role
As a Peer Worker, you will use your own lived and living experience of mental health challenges and recovery to support others on their recovery journey. You will walk alongside participants, helping them identify their strengths, achieve their goals, build independence, reconnect with their community, and access the supports they need.
Working within a recovery-oriented and strengths-based framework, you will provide practical and emotional support while fostering hope, empowerment, self-advocacy, and social connection.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one psychosocial support to participants.
- Support participants to develop and achieve their individual recovery goals.
- Assist participants to access community services, social opportunities, education, employment, NDIS, and My Aged Care where appropriate.
- Facilitate community connection, independence, and skill development.
- Advocate for participants and promote self-advocacy.
- Build collaborative relationships with clinical services, community organisations, carers, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate case notes, recovery plans,
and data collection requirements.
- Contribute to a positive team culture and uphold RRMH values of Respect, Professionalism, Compassion, Commitment, and Excellence
About You To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Personal lived and living experience of mental health challenges and recovery.
- The ability to use your lived experience appropriately and effectively to support others.
- A genuine passion for recovery-oriented practice and participant-led support.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A non-judgmental, respectful, and strengths-focused approach.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- A current Australian Driver's Licence and a reliable car.
- Willingness to travel across the region and meet people where they are.
- A current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Must live in the Goondiwindi Region.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant qualifications in mental health, minimum qual CERT IV in Mental Health or Peer Work, community services, behavioural sciences, human services, peer work, or a related field.
- Experience supporting people experiencing mental health challenges.
- Knowledge of local health,
community, and support services.
- Experience working within recovery-oriented and strengths-based frameworks.
