Performance Graphic Designer (Remote NZ)

About the role

Backbone is the embedded marketing department for challenger brands across ecommerce and services. We're looking for a Graphic Designer to produce the ads, emails and digital assets that help our clients' customers stop, click and buy.

This is a volume creative role. You'll work across several client brands, each with its own brand guide, and turn briefs into finished assets quickly and consistently. Your main focus is paid social, supported by email and web design. You'll see how your work performs and use those results to make the next round better.

What you'll do

- Design static and carousel ads for Meta, across multiple ratios and placements
- Create variations of imagery, headlines, offers and layouts for creative testing
- Design email campaign assets that work well on mobile
- Produce website banners, landing page graphics and supporting assets
- Apply each client's brand guide accurately, switching between brands without losing consistency
- Use and improve Figma templates so recurring work gets faster over time
- Review ad performance with our creative strategist and media buyer, and bring ideas to the next round
- Keep source files, versions and exports organised so work is easy to review, update and reuse
- Check copy, imagery, dimensions and exports before handing over

What you'll bring

- Professional graphic design experience, with a portfolio showing paid social and ecommerce work
- Strong typography, layout and image-editing skills
- Confidence in Figma (Auto Layout, styles, components)



plus Photoshop and Illustrator
- An understanding of how to communicate a message quickly on a mobile screen
- The ability to work accurately to a brand guide, across more than one brand
- Speed without sloppiness: you can deliver consistently across several briefs and deadlines
- Openness to feedback and to using AI tools to extend your output
- Interest in commercial results and improving creative through testing

Nice to have

- Basic video or motion skills (Premiere, After Effects or CapCut)
- Experience with Klaviyo
- Agency experience across multiple clients

Your first 90 days

You'll get to know our clients, their brand guides and our Figma templates. By the end of your first month you'll be producing ad and email creative independently. By 90 days you'll be a reliable part of our testing cycle, contributing ideas based on what the results tell us.

How we work

We're a fully remote team working 9am to 6pm with flex. Start early, finish late, or take a gym break to beat 3pm-itis, as long as it works for you and the team. You'll need a reliable internet connection and a comfortable home setup.
