Robert Menzies College
Location: Sydney, NSW
Location type: On-Site
Date advertised: 1st October 2026
Job Type: Full time
Closing Date: 31st October 2026 An exceptional opportunity to lead, grow and shape one of Australia’s distinctive Christian residential college communities.
Robert Menzies College (RMC) is an Anglican residential college affiliated with Macquarie University in Sydney. For more than 50 years, the College has provided far more than accommodation. It is a living and learning community committed to academic achievement, personal formation, pastoral care and spiritual growth.
With the planned retirement of its longstanding Principal & Chief Executive Officer, the Board is seeking an outstanding Christian leader to guide RMC through its next chapter.
This is a particularly significant appointment.
The next Principal & CEO will inherit an organisation with a robust heritage, committed Board and distinctive Christian mission, while also confronting a changing and increasingly competitive student accommodation environment.
The opportunity is to build upon these foundations and lead a College that is full, financially sustainable, pastorally strong, increasingly influential and positioned confidently for the future.
The leadership challenge The successful candidate will need to combine authentic Christian leadership with strong commercial judgement.
They will be expected to:
- preserve and strengthen RMC’s Christian mission and Anglican identity;
- provide visible, compassionate leadership to students and staff, with particular emphasis on pastoral care and student wellbeing;
- strengthen occupancy and differentiate the College within an increasingly competitive student accommodation market;
- lead a small, capable and hands-on team;
- build stronger relationships with alumni,
donors and the wider Christian community and substantially develop the College’s philanthropic capability;
- act as a compelling external ambassador for RMC, strengthening its reputation and public presence;
- provide sound financial, operational, property and governance leadership;
- strengthen the College’s relationship with Macquarie University and other key stakeholders; and
- identify future opportunities for partnerships, alliances, new services and potentially broader management or accommodation opportunities.
The Board is seeking a leader with wisdom, maturity, energy and an entrepreneurial outlook—someone capable of respecting the College’s heritage while having the confidence to imagine what RMC could become over the next decade.
Candidates may come from residential colleges, higher education, Christian education, independent schools, churches, faith-based organisations, student accommodation or other purpose-led environments. Previous experience as a residential college Principal is not essential.
What will be essential is a demonstrated Christian faith, an understanding of and commitment to working within an Anglican framework, strong executive leadership capability and a genuine desire to contribute to the formation and wellbeing of young people.
This is not simply an opportunity to manage a successful residential college.
It is an opportunity to lead a Christian community, shape the lives of future generations of students and position Robert Menzies College for its next era of growth and influence.
