Senior Financial Accounting | Capital Works & Assets | Queensland Government

Brisbane CBD | Contract to March 2027 | $92.15/hr + Super

This is an chance for an experienced financial accountant to step into a senior Queensland Government role with a strong focus on capital projects, work in progress and asset accounting.

Working from Brisbane CBD, you'll support the financial management of a significant capital and asset portfolio while providing senior financial accounting advice across the organisation.

This role will suit someone who understands the accounting behind major capital programs, from expenditure being captured as work in progress through to capitalisation, asset recognition, reconciliation and financial reporting.

You'll work closely with finance and operational stakeholders to resolve accounting issues, maintain the integrity of financial information and ensure appropriate accounting treatment is applied across capital expenditure and assets.

What you'll be responsible for:

- Managing financial accounting activities across capital works and projects
- Reviewing work in progress (WIP), capitalisation and asset accounting treatment
- Completing asset reconciliations and supporting accurate asset reporting
- Supporting month-end and year-end financial accounting activities
- Maintaining general ledger integrity and resolving accounting issues
- Providing advice to stakeholders on the appropriate accounting treatment of capital expenditure and assets




- Supporting compliance with relevant accounting standards and Queensland Government financial requirements

Who we're looking for: We're looking for an experienced financial accountant who can come into the position and operate confidently at a senior level. This is not a management accounting or purely transactional position, so your background in technical financial accounting will be important.

To be seriously considered, you'll need to bring:

- Strong financial accounting experience, ideally within Queensland Government or another government environment
- Demonstrated experience across capital works, work in progress, capitalisation and asset accounting
- Strong understanding of general ledger reconciliations, month-end/year-end and financial reporting
- The ability to interpret accounting requirements and provide practical advice to finance and operational stakeholders
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to investigate and resolve complex accounting issues

A relevant Accounting, Commerce or Business qualification and CPA/CA membership will be highly regarded.
