Project Accountant | Renewable Energy
Sydney | Utility-Scale Renewables | 3-5 Years’ Experience An established renewable energy platform is looking to appoint a Project Accountant to support a growing portfolio of utility-scale renewable generation and energy storage projects across Australia.
Working closely with the finance, development and project teams, this role will take ownership of project-level accounting and financial control across major infrastructure assets as they progress through development, construction and operations.
This is a strong chance for an accountant with 3-5 years’ experience who enjoys working close to projects and wants to build their career within the Australian energy transition.
The Role
You will support the financial management of a portfolio of large-scale renewable energy projects, with responsibilities including:
- Project accounting across utility-scale renewable energy and infrastructure projects
- Month-end close, journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
- Project cost tracking, reporting and reconciliation against approved budgets
- CAPEX accounting and maintaining accurate project cost records
- Accounts payable oversight, invoice review and reconciliation of project expenditure
- Supporting project budgets, forecasts and cash flow reporting
- Investigating variances between actual and forecast project expenditure
- Maintaining project financial models, cost reports and supporting schedules
- Supporting audit, tax and statutory reporting requirements
- Working closely with project managers and development teams to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Liaising with external contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders where required
- Supporting continuous improvement of project accounting processes and financial controls
About You
We are looking for someone with:
- Approximately 3-5 years’ accounting experience
- CA or CPA qualification, or currently progressing towards qualification
- Demonstrated experience working with large projects, infrastructure or capital-intensive environments
- Strong reconciliation, month-end and financial reporting capability
- Experience with project costs, CAPEX, budgeting and variance analysis
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with large financial datasets
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong understanding of financial controls
- The ability to work effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
Experience within renewable energy, utilities, infrastructure, construction or major projects would be highly regarded, although candidates from other project-intensive industries are encouraged to apply.
