About Oracle Industries

Oracle Industries is a Mackay-based electrical engineering, manufacturing and project delivery business supporting Queensland’s underground mining and heavy industrial sectors. Our capabilities span electrical engineering and design, hazardous-area equipment overhaul, electrical manufacturing, underground mining equipment, control systems, project installations, commissioning, testing and ongoing asset support.

Operating from our Mackay facility, Oracle maintains an ISO 9001 Quality Management System, an AS/NZS 3800 accredited hazardous-area workshop, and a team of engineers, project personnel, tradespeople and technical specialists.

Our philosophy is simple

When Quality Counts.

We are building Oracle around long-term customer relationships, strong technical capability and consistently delivering work that is safe, compliant, practical and dependable.

As Oracle continues to grow its project and engineering capability, we are looking for an experienced Project Manager / Project Engineer who understands underground mining operations and can take ownership of projects from award through to completion.

The Role

This is a hands-on project delivery position with responsibility for managing electrical and engineering projects across Oracle’s workshop and customer mine sites. You will work directly with customers, engineering teams, supervisors, tradespeople, suppliers and Oracle management to ensure projects are delivered safely, commercially and technically.

Depending on your background, the position can be structured around either a Project Manager or Project Engineer level appointment.

Projects may include

- Underground electrical equipment overhauls and upgrades
- Flameproof substations, DCBs and electrical distribution equipment
- Belt starter and control system projects
- Electrical manufacturing and switchboard/control panel projects
- Hazardous-area electrical equipment
- Underground equipment modifications and engineering upgrades
- Site installations and commissioning
- Compliance testing and electrical audits
- Shutdown and maintenance projects
- Equipment rebuilds and major workshop projects
- Customer-specific engineering and improvement projects

What You’ll Be Responsible For

You will take ownership of projects from handover through engineering, procurement, production, testing, site delivery and close-out.

Your responsibilities will include

- Managing project scope, programme, budget and commercial performance
- Developing project schedules, milestones and delivery plans
- Coordinating engineering, procurement, workshop production and site activities
- Working directly with mine-site engineering and maintenance personnel
- Managing customer communication, meetings, reporting and project expectations
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes of work and technical documentation
- Identifying project risks and resolving issues before they impact delivery
- Coordinating labour, materials, subcontractors and suppliers
- Monitoring project costs, committed expenditure,

labour hours and forecast cost to complete
- Managing RFIs, technical clarifications and customer approvals
- Identifying and managing scope changes and variations
- Supporting estimating and tender preparation for new projects
- Coordinating FATs, inspections, testing, commissioning and project handover
- Ensuring project documentation, quality records and MDR requirements are completed correctly
- Working closely with workshop supervisors and tradespeople to remove production constraints
- Conducting site visits and supporting installation and commissioning activities as required
- Ensuring projects comply with customer requirements, Australian Standards, Oracle procedures and applicable mining legislation

This position is not purely administrative. We are looking for someone who is comfortable getting involved, understanding the equipment, speaking with the people doing the work and driving projects forward.

About You

Previous experience working within underground mining operations is essential. You should understand how underground mining projects actually operate — the environment, equipment, safety expectations, operational pressures and the importance of getting equipment back into service.

Ideally, you will have experience in some combination of:

- Underground coal mining
- Electrical engineering or electrical projects
- Mining equipment overhaul or manufacturing
- Underground electrical distribution
- Flameproof and hazardous-area equipment
- Electrical control systems
- Mining maintenance or engineering departments
- Workshop-based equipment rebuilds
- Site installation and commissioning

You may currently be working as a:
- Project Manager
- Project Engineer
- Electrical Engineer
- Mining Engineer
- Electrical Coordinator
- Maintenance Engineer
- Project Coordinator
- Experienced electrical supervisor looking to move into project management

We are more interested in finding someone with the right mining knowledge, judgement and ownership mentalitythan someone who simply ticks every box on a position description.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have:

- Demonstrated experience within underground mining operations
- Experience delivering mining, electrical or industrial projects
- Strong understanding of project planning and execution
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and scopes
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project costs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence dealing directly with customers and senior site personnel
- Strong organisational and problem-solving capability

- Ability to manage several projects and competing priorities
- A practical understanding of safety, quality and compliance requirements

Highly regarded qualifications or experience include:
- Electrical Engineering degree
- Electrical trade qualification
- Project management qualifications
- Underground coal mining experience
- Queensland coal mining competencies
- Hazardous-area / EEHA experience
- AS/NZS 3800 exposure
- Experience with flameproof electrical equipment
- Experience with underground mining electrical systems

The Person We’re Looking For

Oracle is looking for someone who takes ownership. Someone who does not wait until a project is already behind schedule to raise a problem.

Someone who understands that positive project management means knowing what needs to happen next, who is responsible for it and what could prevent it from happening.

You will fit well within Oracle if you:

- Take responsibility for outcomes
- Communicate early and directly
- Care about the standard of work carrying your name
- Treat safety and compliance as fundamental
- Understand the commercial realities of delivering projects
- Can build strong working relationships without avoiding difficult conversations
- Look for solutions rather than simply identifying problems
- Respect the knowledge of tradespeople and technical specialists
- Want to improve systems rather than accept inefficient processes
- Are comfortable working in a growing business where you can have a genuine influence on how projects are delivered

Why Join Oracle?

Oracle is at a stage where the right person can have a meaningful impact on the company. This is an opportunity to work closely with the Directors and become a key part of building Oracle’s project delivery capability as the business expands across engineering, manufacturing, overhaul and field services.

You will have

- Direct access to company decision-makers
- 4/3 Working week based in town.
- Genuine ownership of your projects
- Exposure to technically interesting underground mining equipment
- A combination of engineering, commercial, workshop and site responsibilities
- The ability to influence project systems and processes
- Opportunities to develop into broader operational or management responsibilities as the company grows
- A locally based Mackay role supporting major underground mining operations throughout the region

We want people who are looking to build something, not simply fill a position.

Location

The position is based from Oracle Industries in Mackay, Queensland.

Remuneration

A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated based on the successful applicant’s experience, qualifications and capability.

Apply

If you have experience delivering projects within underground mining and are looking for a role where you can take genuine ownership of the outcome, we would like to hear from you. Please submit your resume along with a brief summary of your project experience.
