The Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified individuals for appointment as an external member of its Quality and Risk Committee (QRC).
The QRC is an Executive Committee of DECYP that provides system-level oversight of quality, safety and risk across Child Safety, Out-of-Home Care and Youth Justice services. The Committee also oversees DECYP's compliance with the Child and Youth Secure Standards and receives regular reporting on service quality, performance and emerging risks.
The Committee is chaired by the Secretary of DECYP and includes senior departmental executives and external members.
About the Role The external member role is focused on governance, assurance and oversight.
The successful applicant will contribute an independent perspective to Committee discussions and support oversight of:
- quality and safety
- risk management
- organisational assurance
- system performance and
- emerging strategic issues.
This is a governance role. Operational expertise is provided to the Committee through standing guests and invited subject matter experts.
About You
We are seeking applicants with demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:
- governance and board membership
- organisational assurance
- risk management
- audit and oversight
- regulation or
- executive leadership within complex organisations.
We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in human service delivery who can bring that perspective to the Committee's governance,
assurance and oversight functions and can:
- analyse information and identify key risks and issues,
- provide independent advice and constructive challenge,
- contribute to strategic discussions, and
- work collaboratively within a governance environment.
Time Commitment The Committee generally meets monthly. Most meetings are held online and run for approximately one hour. Every third meeting is held in person in Hobart and runs for approximately two hours.
Committee papers are distributed in advance and members are expected to review papers before meetings.
Appointment and Remuneration The appointment will be for a term of up to two years, with the option for reappointment.
External members will receive a sitting fee of $786.45 for attendance at standard one-hour Committee meetings and $1,572.90 for attendance at extended two-hour Committee meetings. Fees are exclusive of superannuation.
No additional payments are provided for meeting preparation, travel, accommodation or other ancillary expenses.
External members will receive onboarding information outlining remuneration arrangements, required documentation and the process for claiming sitting fees.
