United Petroleum is seeking an experienced Retail Service Station Fuel System Engineer to join our Retail Network team in Melbourne. This is a hands-on engineering and project delivery role with responsibility for planning, coordinating and delivering fuel-system projects across United Petroleum’s national network of retail service stations.

You will manage projects from initial investigation and scope development through design, approvals, procurement, contractor appointment, construction, commissioning and final handover.

The role will suit an engineer who combines strong technical knowledge with practical site experience, commercial judgement and the ability to manage contractors and multiple projects across Australia.

About the role

Your responsibilities will include

- Managing service station fuel-system projects from concept through to completion.
- Planning and supervising the installation, replacement, decommissioning and removal of underground petroleum storage tanks.
- Managing petrol pump and dispenser installations, including foundations, sumps, electrical and control interfaces, testing and commissioning.
- Managing underground product, fill, vent, vapour-recovery and associated fuel-line installations and upgrades.
- Coordinating tank and fuel-line integrity testing, leak detection, pressure testing, calibration and commissioning.
- Planning and managing LPG storage and dispensing installations and upgrades.
- Preparing scopes of work, technical specifications, drawings, cost estimates, budgets, schedules and tender documentation.
- Selecting, appointing and managing contractors, consultants, inspectors and specialist fuel-system providers.
- Evaluating tenders and negotiating scope, price,



program, variations, claims and commercial terms.
- Monitoring contractor safety, workmanship, quality, cost and schedule.
- Managing defects, practical completion, as-built documentation, warranties and operational handover.
- Working closely with Environmental, Health & Safety, Property and Retail Operations teams.
- Supporting environmental assessments, contaminated-soil management, groundwater considerations and spill-prevention controls.
- Ensuring projects comply with applicable legislation, Australian Standards, hazardous-area requirements and United Petroleum specifications.

About you You will be an experienced engineer with practical knowledge of petroleum retail infrastructure and the ability to manage projects from design through to construction and commissioning.

You will have:

- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a recognised institution.
- At least 5 years' relevant engineering experience in retail petroleum, service station construction, fuel infrastructure, civil construction or a closely related industry.
- Demonstrated experience with underground petroleum storage tanks, petrol pumps/dispensers and underground product, fill and vent lines.
- Experience with LPG storage and dispensing installations or upgrades.
- Strong contractor supervision, tendering, commercial negotiation and contract-administration skills.
- Experience working with Environmental and Health & Safety teams.
- A current Australian driver licence.




- The willingness and ability to travel interstate regularly.

Desirable The following will be highly regarded:

- Chartered Professional Engineer status and/or Engineers Australia NER registration.
- Professional engineering registration where required.
- Working knowledge of AS 1940, AS 4897, AS/NZS 60079 and AS/NZS 1596.
- Experience with contaminated land, underground services, demolition, pavement, canopy works, drainage, separators and retail construction approvals.
- Formal project management or contract administration qualifications.

What we're looking for We are looking for someone who is practical, commercially minded and confident working in the field.

You will be comfortable dealing directly with contractors and suppliers, challenging poor workmanship, controlling variations and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and within approved budgets.

You will also need to work effectively with internal stakeholders, regulators, consultants and specialist contractors across a geographically dispersed network.
