About us
Sherlock Contracting Group (SCG) is a 100% Indigenous-owned Western Australian multidiscipline contractor with offices in Newman and Port Hedland. We deliver structural, mechanical and piping, electrical and instrumentation, civil and earthworks, mine rehabilitation and closure, and facilities maintenance services to Tier 1 resources clients across the Pilbara.
We have been awarded a multi-year progressive rehabilitation and mine closure earthworks contract with a Tier 1 iron ore producer in the East Pilbara. The contract mobilises in Q4 2026 and runs for multiple years, so this is a full-time position with genuine long-term security.
The opportunity
One of two Schedule 26 Supervisors on the project, you will hold a statutory supervisor appointment under the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations and run the day shift on the ground people, plant, production and compliance reporting to the Project Manager.
What you will be doing
- Hold and discharge a Schedule 26 statutory supervisor appointment for your area of responsibility
- Supervise operators and support crew running dozers (D10 class), a 70t excavator, 40t articulated dump trucks, grader, loader, water cart and service truck
- Deliver the Work Package Instruction scope bulk earthworks, landform reshaping and batter recontouring, growth media placement, scarification and seeding
- Run pre-starts, Take 5s and JHAs; apply the project risk controls for heavy vehicle interaction, exclusion zones, working near voids and batters, isolation, fatigue and heat
- Work with the site Surveyor to deliver to design and hold conformance tolerances first time minimising rework
- Capture and report daily production, plant hours,
delays and progress; hand over cleanly shift to shift
- Coach and develop the crew, including Indigenous trainees and entry-level operators moving from service and refueling into operating roles
- Apply environmental and heritage controls ground disturbance permits, heritage exclusion zones, weed and hygiene management, fauna and topsoil handling
- Report, respond to and participate in the investigation of incidents, hazards and near misses
What you will bring
- Schedule 26 statutory supervisor competencies under the WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022, BSBWHS411 and BSBWHS414 plus the regulator's legislation examination. Candidates who hold the units and can complete the examination before mobilisation will be considered and supported
- Minimum 5 years' supervision of bulk earthworks, civil or mining production crews
- Strong practical knowledge of dozer push and trim, load and haul, and grader work you can tell valuable production from expensive production
- Demonstrated safety leadership: able to hold a standard with a crew you work alongside
- Able to run a work area autonomously in a remote, off-grid environment with limited immediate support
- Competent with digital pre-start, timesheet and daily reporting systems
- Current C-class driver's licence
Highly regarded
- Mine rehabilitation, closure or progressive rehabilitation earthworks experience
- Pilbara iron ore experience and exposure to Tier 1 client HSE and permit systems
- HR licence
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, Frontline Management or Training and Assessment
- Provide First Aid and CPR / LVR currency
- ICAM or equivalent incident investigation training
- Experience supervising and developing an Aboriginal workforce or trainee cohort
