About the role The Canteen Manager role is for approximately 22-25 hours per week, working Tuesday through Friday from 9:00am to 2:00pm, with opportunities to cover additional shifts depending on different events.
The position will commence in Term 4 (12 October) 2026 and is offered for a until 30 June 2027, with the possibility of extension subject to performance and operational needs.
As Canteen Manager, you will have a passion for providing fresh and healthy food and drinks. You will demonstrate patience when working with children, actively support and encourage volunteers, collaborate with teachers and school staff, and report to the Latham Primary School P&C; Association.
Key responsibilities
- Cooking and preparing hot and cold food and drinks
- Undertaking ordering and stock control
- Ensuring compliance with health, safety, food handling, and healthy food practices and policies
- Supporting P&C-run; events throughout the year
- Upholding and demonstrating the school's values and behaviour expectations, including following school process and protocols in accordance with the ACT Education Directorate and the Principal
- Communicating and promoting the canteen menu and services
- Engaging, managing, and training volunteers
- Maintaining current qualifications and accurate stocktake and food safety records
About you
- Relevant safe food handling qualifications (e.g. SITXFSA201/101 or Certificate III in Hospitality)
- A current Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) card, or the ability to obtain one
- Experience cooking and packaging food in a busy environment
- Solid communication and time management skills
- Experience applying the ACT Government Healthy Food and Drink Policy and the National Healthy Schools Canteen Policy
- Experience with online ordering systems (e.g. Flexischools), cash handling, and basic accounting
- Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Demonstrated ability to work positively with children and a school community
- Demonstrated ability to be fair, inclusive, exercise good judgement and follow ACT Education School procedures and processes
About us Latham Primary School is located in Latham and has approximately 335 students. The school canteen, The Latham Lunchbox, is run by the Latham Primary School P&C; Association as a not-for-profit business. The canteen provides the school community with a fun and healthy menu and operates in accordance with Nutrition Australia guidelines, the ACT Healthy Food and Drink Policy, and the Fresh Tastes Program.
