Hands-on senior accounting role | Multi-entity environment | Entertainment industry

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Accountant who enjoys being close to the numbers, understands what is happening across a business and can turn financial information into meaningful commercial insight.

Working across a diverse and growing entertainment business, you’ll take responsibility for financial and management accounting across seven entities in Australia and Recent Zealand. You’ll work as an equal partner alongside an existing Senior Accountant, sharing responsibility for ensuring the finance function is accurate, current, compliant and operating efficiently.

This is not a role for someone who wants to sit above the detail. You’ll be hands-on across the full accounting cycle while also working directly with senior management on reporting, forecasting, cash flow and business performance.

What you'll be doing

Your responsibilities will include

- Preparing monthly P&L;, Balance Sheet and management reporting across multiple entities
- Providing meaningful commentary on results, margins, variances and emerging trends
- Managing cash flow and maintaining forward-looking cash flow forecasts
- Managing and reconciling accounts payable, receivable, banking and inter-company transactions
- Overseeing payroll and supporting PAYG, payroll tax, FBT and other statutory requirements
- Preparing annual budgets and forecasts and monitoring actual performance against them
- Supporting year-end accounting and working closely with external accountants and tax advisers
- Maintaining strong financial controls, reconciliations and accounting processes
- Managing Xero and ensuring accounting information remains accurate and up to date

- Monitoring inventory, fixed assets, depreciation and the Chart of Accounts
- Supporting royalty accounting, reporting and payments to licensors
- Managing financial obligations associated with rights, advances and contractual commitments
- Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, systems and reporting
- Working directly with senior management to explain not just what the numbers are, but what they mean for the business

Who we're looking for

You’ll be an experienced accountant who is equally comfortable completing detailed accounting work and discussing financial performance with senior stakeholders.

Ideally, you will bring:

- 10 years' accounting/bookkeeping experience
- Strong hands-on financial and management accounting capability
- Experience working across multiple entities or business units
- Advanced practical knowledge of Xero
- Strong cash flow management, budgeting and forecasting experience
- Experience preparing monthly management accounts and analysing variances
- Sound understanding of Australian taxation and statutory accounting requirements
- Strong reconciliation skills and exceptional attention to detail
- The ability to manage competing deadlines and high transaction volumes
- Strong commercial acumen and the confidence to question numbers that don't look right

- Clear, practical communication skills and the ability to work directly with senior management
- CPA qualification/accreditation will be highly regarded

Experience with royalties, licensing, rights management, media, film, entertainment or another contract-driven industry would be valuable, but we're equally interested in strong accountants who can quickly understand a specialised business model.

The person

We’re looking for someone who takes ownership.

You’ll be organised, commercially minded and comfortable operating in a business where priorities can move quickly. You won't wait for someone else to identify a reconciliation issue, reporting gap or process that isn't working—you'll investigate it, understand it and help fix it.

Most importantly, you'll combine the discipline and accuracy of a strong accountant with the curiosity to understand the commercial story behind the numbers.
