About Bulk Nutrients
Bulk Nutrients is Australia’s leading direct-to-customer supplier of sports and nutritional supplements. We're an Employer of Choice and proud to develop, manufacture, and dispatch all our products in Southern Tasmania.
Senior Data Analyst / Analytics Engineer Position Overview
We’re looking for a Senior Data Analyst / Analytics Engineer to join our growing Digital Transformation team at Bulk Nutrients.
We’re expanding the data team and are looking for someone who can take a business question all the way to a trusted answer: designing the data model that makes the question answerable, then undertaking the analysis that turns it into a decision.
This is a hands-on senior role. You’ll own the design and development of the analytics-ready data models that sit behind our reporting, lead deeper analytical work and help lift the standard of how we model, test and document data across the team.
The role requires strong technical judgement, a keen understanding of business needs, and the ability to distil complex data into clear recommendations for people across the business.
We are flexible for the right candidate. This role is offered at 0.8 to 1.0 FTE, and working days and hours can be negotiated.
You’ll be part of our Digital Transformation team, working closely with our Business Intelligence Manager, while partnering with every department, meaning you’ll need to be approachable, pragmatic and keen to help other teams succeed.
Apply, join us, and help shape the foundations of Bulk Nutrients’ data-driven decision making.
Position Location
Huntingfield, Tasmania (2028 onwards: Grove, Tasmania)
For the right candidate, a partial work from home option is available; however, candidates must be based in Southern Tasmania as we work on a hybrid model.
We are in the process of constructing a new facility located in Grove – from 2028 onwards this will be the primary office location.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain analytics-ready data models (dbt and BigQuery)
that make complex business questions efficiently answerable.
- Assist in and lead end-to-end data analysis for internal stakeholders: scoping the question, building or extending the models as necessary, analysing the data and delivering clear recommendations.
- Translate business processes and requirements into well-defined metrics, dimensions and grains, and maintain a consistent semantic layer for reporting.
- Develop and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards built on trusted, well-documented data models.
- Implement data quality testing, documentation and version control practices to ensure accuracy and integrity across the data platform.
- Work with the team on ingesting and integrating data from business systems (ecommerce, ERP, marketing and finance platforms), ensuring source data is fit for modelling.
- Identify trends, patterns and opportunities in large datasets to inform commercial decisions.
- Mentor other analysts through code review, pairing and sharing best practice.
- Apply data protection and privacy requirements for how data is modelled, stored and shared.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential:
- 4+ years’ experience in data analytics, analytics engineering or business intelligence, with a track record of delivering analysis that has influenced business decisions.
- Advanced SQL, including window functions, CTEs and performance-aware query design on large datasets.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining data models in dbt (or SQLMesh or similar), including tests, documentation and modular design.
- Strong understanding of data modelling approaches, such as dimensional modelling, fact and dimension design,
grain and slowly changing dimensions.
- Experience working with a cloud data warehouse (BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks or similar).
- An understanding of data visualisation in Power BI (including DAX and semantic model design) or similar.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain findings, trade-offs and data limitations to non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or similar. Equivalent professional experience is also considered.
Desirable:
- Python (or similar) for analysis, automation or data pipelines.
- Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows (branching, pull requests, code review).
- Experience with ecommerce or direct-to-customer datasets (BigCommerce, Shopify, GA4, Google Ads, Klaviyo or similar).
- Experience with manufacturing, production or warehousing datasets.
- Familiarity with data governance and master data management practices.
- Experience mentoring analysts or leading analytics projects.
