Senior Electrical Primary Engineer – Energy

Core Talent are partnering with a leading engineering consultancy to identify an experienced Senior Electrical Primary Engineer to join their growing Energy team in Perth.

This is an opportunity to take a senior technical role delivering complex HV substation and energy infrastructure projects, working across transmission and distribution networks and providing technical leadership from design through to construction and commissioning.

The Opportunity

As Senior Electrical Primary Engineer, you'll take ownership of HV substation primary design packages and provide technical direction across major energy infrastructure projects.

- Leading the delivery of HV substation primary design packages up to 330kV
- Developing substation layouts, general arrangements and key electrical diagrams
- Specifying and selecting primary plant including transformers, switchgear, instrument transformers, surge arresters and busbar systems
- Undertaking engineering studies and calculations covering earthing, insulation coordination, lightning protection and conductor design
- Acting as a senior technical interface between clients, utilities, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Leading technical reviews, design assurance and approval processes
- Providing senior engineering input through construction, testing and commissioning
- Ensuring designs are safe, reliable, practical and constructable
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and designers
- Applying Western Power requirements, Australian Standards and relevant industry requirements to deliver compliant engineering solutions
- Taking ownership of design quality, technical risk, competing priorities and project delivery outcomes





What We're Looking For We're looking for a senior electrical engineer with solid technical capability across HV substation primary design and a proven track record delivering complex energy infrastructure projects.

- A degree in Electrical Engineering
- Significant experience delivering HV substation primary design projects within Australia
- Proven senior-level experience across:
- Substation primary design
- Equipment specification and selection
- Engineering calculations
- Design assurance
- Transmission and distribution networks

- Experience working to Western Power requirements and/or delivering projects for utilities, mining or industrial network operators
- Strong understanding of HV primary plant and substation design
- Experience preparing technical reports, specifications and client-facing documentation
- Strong technical communication and stakeholder management skills
- The ability to lead technical discussions and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
- A collaborative approach with the confidence to provide technical direction and mentoring
- Demonstrated ownership of design quality, risk and delivery outcomes
