The Graduate Research School (GRS) is seeking an experienced and student-focused Senior Graduate Research Officer, Candidature Management to support Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students throughout their candidature journey.

This is an excellent prospect to play a key role in supporting research students, supervisors and faculty stakeholders while contributing to the delivery of a high-quality research education experience across the University.

About the Team The Graduate Research School is responsible for strategic planning, policy development, quality assurance and operational oversight of research education at UTS.

The team provides central management of all stages of HDR candidature and works closely with faculties, supervisors and students to support researcher development, candidature progression and student success. With more than 2,300 HDR students across the University, the Graduate Research School plays a critical role in enabling a positive and high-quality research experience.

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Candidature, you will provide high-level advice, administration and operational support across a broad range of HDR candidature matters. You will work closely with HDR students, supervisors, HDR Directors, faculty staff and stakeholders across the University to support candidature progression, resolve complex enquiries and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.

The role requires strong judgement, exceptional stakeholder management skills and the ability to navigate complex cases while delivering a high standard of customer service and support.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide expert advice and support to HDR students and supervisors on candidature progression, variations, leave of absence, extensions and related matters.
- Coordinate and support Faculty Research Degree Committee (FRDC) processes, including case preparation, documentation and recording outcomes.
- Manage complex HDR enquiries and student matters, providing advice, guidance and appropriate escalation where required.
- Support HDR Directors,



Coordinators and Supervisors in managing candidature progression and student outcomes.
- Interpret and apply HDR policies, procedures, regulations and government requirements to ensure compliant and consistent decision-making.
- Maintain accurate records, reporting and case management information across University systems and databases.
- Use data and reporting to identify trends, monitor student progression and support evidence-based decision-making.
- Contribute to projects, process improvement initiatives and Graduate Research School activities that enhance the HDR student experience.

About You To be successful in this role, you will bring:

- Experience providing high-level administrative, advisory or student support services within a large and complex organisation.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build productive relationships across diverse groups.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex policies, procedures and regulations while providing accurate and practical advice.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Well-developed analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- A solid customer service focus and commitment to delivering positive outcomes for students and stakeholders.
- Experience using enterprise systems, databases and reporting tools to manage information and support decision-making.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or substantial experience in administration, service delivery, research education or a related environment. Experience within higher education will be highly regarded.

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $101,262 to $109,641 pa (HEW 6)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.

This position is offered on a full-time continuing basis and hybrid, with a mix of on-campus and remote work.
