Senior Lawyer – Tax & Private Business Advisory

Moss & Co Consulting is partnering with an established Melbourne-based multidisciplinary professional services firm to appoint an experienced Senior Lawyer with strong taxation expertise to its growing practice.

Bringing together Legal, Accounting and Private Business Advisory under one roof, the firm works closely with private businesses, business owners and sophisticated private clients across their broader legal, tax and commercial needs.

This is an opportunity for a tax lawyer who enjoys looking beyond the technical legal question and understanding the broader commercial picture for their clients.

You do not need to be an accountant. However, experience working alongside accountants, an accounting background or additional tax/accounting qualifications would certainly be valued.

The opportunity

Working across the firm’s Legal and Accounting teams, you’ll advise an established client base on complex taxation, structuring and related commercial matters.

You’ll work collaboratively with accountants, lawyers and advisers across the broader business, giving you exposure to matters that don’t always sit neatly within the confines of a traditional law firm.

Importantly, you won’t be stepping into the role alone. There are currently two CA-qualified professionals within the team , together with support from the broader client group and a dedicated EA supporting the portfolio.

Depending on your background, your work may include:

- Advising on complex taxation and structuring matters;
- Working with private businesses, business owners and sophisticated private clients;
- Advising on transactions, restructures and broader commercial matters with significant tax considerations;
- Working closely with the firm’s accountants and broader advisory team;
- Managing matters and client relationships with a high degree of autonomy;




- Mentoring and supporting other professionals within the team; and
- Contributing to the continued development of the firm’s tax and private business advisory capability.

Who we’re looking for We’re deliberately keeping the brief relatively broad. You may currently be a Senior Associate, Special Counsel or experienced senior lawyer within a law firm, boutique tax practice or multidisciplinary professional services environment.

Your title matters less than your ability to confidently advise on sophisticated taxation matters and operate autonomously with senior clients.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

- Admission as an Australian lawyer;
- Strong experience across taxation law and advisory;
- The ability to confidently manage complex tax matters;
- Commercial judgement and confidence advising business owners and private clients;
- An interest in working collaboratively across Legal and Accounting; and
- The ability to build trusted, long-term client relationships.

An accounting background, CA/CPA qualification or experience within a multidisciplinary tax workplace would be highly regarded, but is not essential . There is an established client base and broader advisory business already in place, so a portable practice is not a prerequisite .
