About the Role
Differentia Biotech Pty Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Senior Modeling Scientist to join our Mechanistic Modeling team in Sydney. In this role, you will report to the Senior Director of Mechanistic Modeling and apply pharmacometric and QSP modelling to support drug development across a range of therapeutic areas. You will work on projects from preclinical through clinical development, using cutting-edge modelling approaches.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, qualify, and apply population PK/PD, PBPK, and quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP) models to support preclinical and clinical drug development.
- Lead the design and analysis of modelling projects, including but not limited to pregnancy PK/PD, special populations, and mechanistic safety/efficacy evaluations.
- Implement and optimise modelling workflows using NONMEM, mrgsolve/R, Julia, Simcyp, MATLAB/SimBiology, and Monolix.
- Collaborate with clinical pharmacology, biostatistics, and regulatory teams to integrate modelling results into decision-making.
- Contribute to regulatory submissions and interactions, including the preparation of modelling reports and documentation.
- Mentor junior scientists and contribute to internal training and methodology development.
- Present findings at internal meetings and external scientific conferences.
Essential Requirements
- PhD in Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacometrics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in pharmacometric modelling,
including hands-on QSP modelling experience.
- Proven expertise in QSP modelling, including the development and application of quantitative systems pharmacology models for drug discovery and development.
- Advanced proficiency in NONMEM, mrgsolve/R, Julia, Simcyp, MATLAB/SimBiology, and Monolix.
- Demonstrated experience with population PK/PD, PBPK, and modelling in special populations (e.g., pregnancy, paediatrics, older adults).
- Strong programming skills in R, Python, or Julia, and experience with high-performance computing environments.
- Fluency in Mandarin Chinese (spoken and written) is required to communicate directly with China-based research partners and internal teams, and to explain modelling results to Chinese clients.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to present complex modelling concepts to cross-functional teams.
- A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and a history of presenting at international conferences.
Desirable
- Experience with regulatory submissions (FDA, EMA, TGA).
- Familiarity with real-world data analysis and electronic health records.
- Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence applications in pharmacology.
