We are looking for to recruit one Seasonal Ranger to support the dedicated park area team responsible for Mt Buffalo National Park during the busy summer period.

The Prospect
As a Seasonal Ranger, you'll support the Ranger team responsible for Mt Buffalo National Park during the peak summer period. This full-time seasonal position is based at the Mt Buffalo Parks Victoria work centre and provides an opportunity to be involved in the day-to-day management of one of Victoria's most popular park environments.
You'll undertake a variety of practical, field-based duties while helping visitors safely enjoy the park. Your work will include engaging with visitors, supporting park maintenance activities and contributing to the broader management and protection of the park.
The role is physically demanding and regularly involves manual outdoor fieldwork in varying conditions and, at times, semi-remote locations.
You'll need an appropriate level of fitness to safely undertake the inherent requirements of a field-based Ranger position.
The formal position description also identifies conservation, visitor infrastructure and asset maintenance, community engagement and other on-ground park management services as activities Seasonal Rangers may contribute to.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide positive customer service and confidently engage with park visitors.
- Undertake practical field-based maintenance tasks using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Contribute to on-ground land, conservation, infrastructure, asset and visitor management activities.
- Work safely and responsibly, identifying and managing risks associated with field-based activities.
- Work effectively both autonomously and as part of a supportive Ranger team.
- Engage constructively with community members, park users and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrate reliability, initiative and effective time management.
About You
You're practical, motivated and enjoy working outdoors as part of a team. You have a strong work ethic and are comfortable undertaking physically demanding field-based work while maintaining a strong focus on safety and delivering positive experiences for visitors.
You'll be confident engaging with members of the public, able to manage your time and work independently when required, and comfortable carrying out practical maintenance tasks using tools and equipment.
You'll bring:
- Relevant qualifications or skills in environmental science, natural-resource management, conservation and land management, outdoor education, community engagement,
carpentry or another trade.
- Experience delivering routine and moderately complex on-ground services or projects as part of a team.
- A current Victorian Driver Licence.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to prepare clear written communications.
- The ability to work effectively within a safe, respectful and inclusive team.
- Sound judgement, initiative and practical problem-solving skills.
- Experience working constructively with park visitors, community members or volunteer groups.
- Reliability in meeting deadlines and delivering agreed work requirements.
- The fitness and capability to undertake outdoor work in remote and sometimes arduous conditions.
