Site Supervisor
Skilling Queenslanders for Work Construction Traineeship
Location: Herston and various Brisbane worksites
Employment type: Full-time fixed-term position
Program: CPC10120 Certificate I in Construction
Team size: Up to 11 trainees per intake
Communify Queensland is seeking an experienced and supportive Site Supervisor to lead a team of trainees participating in our Skilling Queenslanders for Work Certificate I in Construction program.
This hands-on role involves supervising trainees across practical construction and community improvement projects while supporting their skills development, workplace confidence and readiness for ongoing employment.
The successful applicant will work closely with Communify’s Employment and Training team, CSTC and project partners to ensure all activities are completed safely, professionally and in accordance with project requirements.
About the role
The Site Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of up to 11 trainees per intake undertaking an 18-week paid construction traineeship.
Practical activities may include:
• Basic carpentry and construction tasks
• Measuring, setting out, fixing and assembling materials
• Surface preparation and painting
• Minor property repairs and maintenance
• Fence and fixture repairs
• Landscaping and pathway maintenance
• Construction and installation of outdoor seating
• Tool handling, maintenance and protected storage
• General site preparation and clean-up activities
The role will also involve transporting trainees, tools and equipment between Communify facilities and external project worksites.
Key responsibilities
• Lead, supervise and work alongside a team of up to 11 construction trainees.
• Develop daily and weekly work plans in consultation with Communify and project partners.
• Allocate tasks according to trainee abilities, training requirements and project priorities.
• Provide trainees with practical instruction, demonstrations, guidance and constructive feedback.
• Support participants from diverse backgrounds who may experience barriers to employment.
• Promote positive workplace behaviour, teamwork, punctuality and professional standards.
• Conduct worksite inductions, toolbox talks and daily safety briefings.
• Prepare and maintain risk assessments,
Safe Work Method Statements and other required WHS documentation.
• Ensure work is undertaken safely and complies with WHS legislation, Communify policies and partner requirements.
• Monitor trainee attendance, conduct, wellbeing and workplace performance.
• Report incidents, injuries, hazards, attendance concerns or participant support needs promptly to the Project Coordinator.
• Maintain accurate timesheets, attendance records, worksite documentation and photographic evidence of completed activities.
• Coordinate tools, equipment, materials, PPE and consumables.
• Ensure tools and equipment are operated safely, maintained appropriately and securely stored.
• Transport trainees in a Communify vehicle and tow a tool trailer where required.
• Liaise with Communify, CSTC and project partners regarding training activities and worksite requirements.
• Assist with job-readiness activities, employer engagement and trainees’ transition into employment.
• Perform other duties consistent with the position as directed by Communify management.
Essential qualifications and requirements
Applicants must have:
• Relevant construction industry experience, with at least two years’ practical experience preferred
• A construction qualification, with Certificate III or higher highly regarded
• A current Construction White Card
• A current Queensland Blue Card or the ability to obtain one before commencing
• A current unrestricted driver licence
• The ability and confidence to drive a 12-seat vehicle
• The capacity to tow a tool trailer where required
• Sound knowledge of construction WHS requirements and safe work practices
• Experience supervising trainees, apprentices, labourers or entry-level workers
• Physical capacity to undertake practical construction and maintenance activities
• Current Australian working rights
Employment will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment screening and verification of the required licences and cards.

• Strong leadership and day-to-day team supervision skills
• Practical experience coordinating construction or property-maintenance activities
• The ability to demonstrate tasks clearly and patiently
• Experience supporting people with different learning needs and employment barriers
• Confidence managing challenging behaviours professionally and respectfully
• Strong organisational, planning and problem-solving skills
• The ability to manage changing work priorities and multiple worksites
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Accurate recordkeeping and incident-reporting skills
• Experience working collaboratively with RTOs, community organisations, employers and other stakeholders
• A commitment to inclusion, cultural safety and participant wellbeing
Desirable requirements
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
• Current First Aid and CPR certification
• Mental Health First Aid training
• Working at Heights certification
• Confined Space certification
• Experience delivering Skilling Queenslanders for Work or another employment and training program
• Experience working with young people and culturally diverse communities
