The purpose of the Principal Engineer is to manage the operational aspects of road infrastructure project delivery and to provide leadership and technical expertise to project managers on design, construction and maintenance projects and the operation of road networks.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Manage the delivery of Maintenance Preservation Operations (MPO) programs for both the State and Federal road networks within the district and manage Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) programs as and when they occur.
- Provide expertise in evaluating engineering and design options, material usage, resource allocation, and construction practices, advising on their suitability within projects. Ensure project success through optimal resource utilization, adherence to best practices and value for money.
- Maintain and apply all relevant standards, policies, guidelines, and legislative requirements necessary to support responsible decisions and actions for the design and construction of road infrastructure projects.
- Supervise and coordinate resource allocation, encourage effective teamwork, collaboration and inclusion, and foster a positive attitude toward the achievement of organisational objectives.
- Maintain communication and alliances with stakeholders, manage expectations and issues and identify possible political and high risk matters to ensure they are dealt within a timely and professional manner.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions:
- A four-year, Washington Accord accredited, Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalence which is assessed/accepted by Engineers Australia against Washington Accord benchmarks.
- Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is mandatory for appointment to the position.
- Current Class C driver's license.
- Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
Requirements of the role:
- Sound experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team to successfully plan, develop and deliver large maintenance and asset management orientated infrastructure projects and programs.
- Manage and respond to road network impacts through the application of processes, systems and resourcing to enable the safe and efficient operation of the road network.
- Proficient in contract and construction management, ensuring adherence to construction and maintenance best practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to interpret road planning, design principles and standards for the development of projects that meet client requirements.
- Thorough knowledge of project management principals and methodology with a strong ability to coordinate and manage project performance.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high standard of practice through governance and risk management.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to enable the collaborative delivery of customer-focused outcomes.
