Environmental Health Officer

- Full-time, fixed-term opportunity until September 2027

- $104,790 - $114,015 per annum (pro rata to apply), plus superannuation and RDOs

Help shape a healthier, safer Boroondara. We’re looking for a motivated, community-minded Environmental Health Officer to join our dedicated team and deliver practical, trusted public health outcomes across the municipality.

About the role

You’ll combine fieldwork, investigation and education to protect public health and support local food and health businesses. Working with an experienced team, you’ll conduct inspections, investigate hazards, guide businesses through legislative requirements and take proportionate action where needed. You’ll also participate in a rotating on-call roster, helping our community remain safe, resilient and well informed.

About you

You’re a qualified Environmental Health skilled who brings sound knowledge of public health legislation, confident judgement and a genuine commitment to community wellbeing. You communicate clearly, build constructive relationships and approach complex situations with integrity, empathy and practical problem-solving.

You’ll thrive here if you can balance competing priorities, work collaboratively and deliver excellent customer service in a fast-paced regulatory environment. A commitment to continuous learning and improvement will help you make a strong contribution from day one.

Key responsibilities

- Undertake inspections, assess compliance and provide clear, practical guidance to food and public health businesses.

- Respond to community health complaints and incidents, investigate risks including food adulteration and infectious disease, and take appropriate education or enforcement action.

- Maintain accurate records and prepare high-quality reports,



notices and evidence for legal proceedings where required.

- Represent Council in legal proceedings when required and contribute to health promotion initiatives.

- Support the development of colleagues and students, and improve procedures, registers and systems.

- Help strengthen public health service delivery and community safety across Boroondara.

Employment Requirements

1. Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent including eligibility to be a member of Environmental Health Australia.

2. Conversant with, and able to interpret, all legislation and standards relating to public health.

3. Applicants must have the right to work in Australia.

1. Preferred applicants will be required to undergo a National Police Record Check and hold a valid Working with Children Clearance.
