McArthur is partnering with a major local government organisation in Western Sydney to recruit an experienced Tree Management Officer for a permanent, full-time opportunity.
This is an excellent opportunity for an arboriculture professional looking to move beyond purely operational tree work and apply their technical expertise across tree assessment, urban forest management, public tree assets and community advice.
Working within the City Assets function, you will play an important role in ensuring Council's tree assets are managed safely, professionally and sustainably.
The role
You will undertake inspections and assessments of public tree assets and provide informed recommendations regarding tree health, condition, risk and maintenance requirements.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Inspecting Council-owned trees and identifying appropriate maintenance requirements
- Assessing tree health, condition and potential hazards
- Providing technical advice on tree management matters to residents, staff and other stakeholders
- Assisting with the administration of Tree Preservation Order applications and related inspections
- Investigating incidents involving street, park and Council property trees, including potential root damage
- Supporting Council's street tree planting and replacement programs
- Programming and monitoring arboriculture and tree-related works
- Preparing recommendations, correspondence, inspection records and reports
- Liaising with contractors and monitoring works to ensure agreed standards are met
- Undertaking risk and hazard assessments and recommending appropriate corrective action
- Communicating Council policies and tree-management requirements clearly to residents and the wider community.
The position has genuine responsibility for Council's tree assets rather than being solely a hands-on tree-maintenance role.
About you
To be considered, you will ideally bring:
- Relevant qualifications in Arboriculture or a closely related field
- Solid practical and technical experience in tree management
- Experience assessing tree health, condition, maintenance requirements and risk
- Sound knowledge of arboricultural practices and urban tree management
- Confidence providing professional advice to residents, contractors and internal stakeholders
- Strong written skills for inspection records, correspondence and reports
- Good judgement and the ability to make sound recommendations following site inspections
- A current Class C driver's licence.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in arboriculture or a related discipline, extensive tree-management experience and a Class C licence are essential.
The following will also be highly regarded:
- White Card / General Construction Induction
- Traffic Control accreditation
- Chainsaw competency
- Herbicide application accreditation
- Previous local government or public-tree asset experience.
Why consider this opportunity?
This is a 6 mnth full time opportunity to use your arboriculture knowledge at an asset-management and assessment level while contributing directly to the management and future development of a significant urban tree network.
You will work across a varied portfolio involving established public trees, new planting programs, community enquiries, inspections and contractor works - providing considerably more variety than a traditional production arborist position.
If you are an experienced arborist or tree-management professional ready to take the next step into a broader technical role, we would like to hear from you.
Apply now with your current resume outlining your arboriculture qualifications and relevant tree-management experience. To discuss this role further, please oontact Stuart Sebiranda on (02) •••• •042.
