About the opportunity
The Faculty of Engineering at The University of Sydney (Sydney, Australia) invites applications for several academic positions at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Associate Professor (Level B-D) across our Engineering schools. We are seeking academics whose research engages with AI including, but not limited to:
LEVERAGE AI: Use AI to advance research, discovery, engineering practice, design, computation, education and other fields — applying AI to new problems and unlocking new possibilities.
UNDERSTAND AI: Investigate how AI works, from its mathematical, computational and engineering foundations to its capabilities, limitations, behaviour, impacts and implications.
BUILD AI: Develop the next generation of AI methods, models, systems, tools and technologies, and the engineering and computational foundations that enable them.
We welcome researchers whose connection to AI is established today, as well as those who can articulate how AI will shape their current or future research.

All positions are full-time, continuing (tenure-track), teaching and research roles based in Sydney.

The role offers strong opportunities for collaboration with world-class researchers and University key partners, including theSydney Biomedical Accelerator , as well as opportunities to develop new interdisciplinary collaborations across the University.
About you

You will develop an independent research program and engage in collaborations within and outside the University, including with industry partners. You will contribute to curriculum development and delivery at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and contribute to leadership of the School/Faculty.
You will be able to demonstrate:
a PhD in a relevant field. Applicants who have submitted their PhD for examination or will do so in the immediate future can be considered
a strong track record in research appropriate to the discipline and level of appointment (relative to opportunity and taking career disruptions into account)
ability to teach, engage, and support the learning of students using innovative and modern pedagogies, including the organisation and delivery of a unit of study, with an eye to how AI is reshaping teaching and learning in your field
outstanding communication skills and collegiality
high-level problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex issues as they arise.

Term and Remuneration
The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Successful applicants should expect an internationally competitive salary, a generous start-up package and first-class research, learning and teaching environment.
