Our client is a highly regarded Sydney commercial builder specialising in Fit Out and Heavy Refurbishment, with an outstanding reputation, strong pipeline and growing presence across the market.
The business is continuing its progression into the Tier 2 space, backed by a strong leadership team and a young, ambitious group of construction professionals.
The culture is fast-moving, collaborative and genuinely hungry to keep building on what has already been achieved.
As part of that growth, they are looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to work closely with the Managing Director and leadership team to help drive the next phase.
This isn't about chasing tender volume.
They want someone who knows the market, has genuine relationships and can open new doors, create opportunities and introduce the business to new clients and sectors.
The Opportunity
The focus will be on occupied spaces, including hospitality, government, defence, aged care and education, while remaining open to other sectors where you have strong relationships.
Projects will predominantly be Fit Out and Heavy Refurbishment valued up to $20m+, often in live and occupied environments.
You'll have the autonomy to leverage your network, open new doors and create opportunities, backed by a contractor with the reputation and delivery capability to follow through.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing new client and consultant relationships across the Sydney marketOpening doors with organisations and decision-makers not currently working with the businessIdentifying upcoming Fit Out and Heavy Refurbishment opportunitiesBuilding a sustainable pipeline of quality project opportunities valued up to $20m+Developing opportunities across hospitality, government, defence,



aged care, education and other relevant sectorsMaintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective clientsWorking closely with the Managing Director and leadership team on business development strategyProviding market intelligence around clients, competitors, sectors and upcoming projectsSupporting client presentations, submissions, networking and industry engagementContributing to the broader marketing and positioning of the business within the Sydney market
What We're Looking For
We are looking for an experienced construction Business Development professional who understands the Sydney Fit Out and Refurbishment market and, importantly, has genuine relationships within it.
The successful candidate will ideally possess:
Business Development experience within a commercial head contractorStrong knowledge of the Sydney Fit Out and Heavy Refurbishment marketAn established network of clients, consultants and industry contactsExperience developing and converting commercial construction opportunitiesRelationships across hospitality, hotels, government, defence,



aged care or education would be highly regardedStrong communication and relationship-building skillsGood commercial judgement and an understanding of which opportunities are right for the businessThe confidence and credibility to engage with senior clients and key decision-makersA proactive and well-connected approach to the marketThe ability to operate autonomously while working closely with the leadership teamPrevious marketing experience or an interest in contributing to the broader marketing strategy would be advantageous
We are not necessarily looking for someone who has worked across every sector listed above.
A candidate with a solid reputation, an established network and the ability to introduce the business into current clients and markets will be equally compelling.
