Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN)Full-time (100%), permanent position with a dedicated and collaborative teamBase salary will be in the range $106,****** - $116,****** + 17% super (HEW Level 7)Based at our vibrant St Lucia CampusAbout This OpportunityWe are seeking a motivated and experienced Floor Manager to manage all aspects of the research floor operation and/or shared laboratory/research facilities and research equipment.Reporting to the AIBN Infrastructure Manager, the Floor Manager will be responsible for all aspects of managing the shared facilities and research equipment on the floor as well as maintaining shared equipment.
In this role, you will work closely with the other AIBN Floor Managers to coordinate activities and support throughout AIBN's research facilities.
In addition, you will work under the advisement and guidance provided by the AIBN's Health Safety Wellness Manager.Key responsibilities will include:Floor ManagementProvide oversight and management of the laboratory and office areas.Manage the use of office space and desk allocation for the floorInteract with the various facilities staff from the individual Research Groups and the Facilities and other Floor Managers to coordinate activitiesCoordinates and manage the process for building repairs / alterations and requests, including coordinating the installation of building services such as power points, gas outletsCoordinates and manages infrastructure, assets, research equipment, communal work areas and inventory, including conducting stocktakes, audits, procurement, coordinating repair/works and managing other relevant processesActs as Floor Warden (floor or building), Laser Safety Officer, Workplace Health and Safety Coordinator (WHSC) and/or First Aid Officer and advises/trains staff on HSW and other legislated responsibilitiesParticipates in the local workplace health and safety committeeConduct workplace audits and risk assessments to identify hazards and unsafe workplace conditions and work practices and determines and monitors the implementation of appropriate corrective/control measuresProvide inductions, training on specialised equipment/chemical handling and other relevant training for staff,



visitors and contractorsTrain and supports research staff with documentation for OGTR, Ethics, DAFFMaintain records of AIBN equipment, building occupants and chemicalsLaboratory ManagementManagement of central AIBN laboratory equipment, including scheduling, supply of consumables, ensuring correct use of instrumentation, providing training and servicing.Act as liaison between the research staff and the Institute's Infrastructure Manager and the HSW Manager, including providing after-hours contact and support.Monitor the use of laboratory space and provide advice to the Infrastructure Manager on space utilisation.Facilitate the implementation of testing regimes RCD, Biosafety cabinets, fume cupboards etc.Coordinates the use of common areas and resources (eg. laboratory wash-up area and laboratory supplies)Coordinate infrastructure requirements to accommodate the installation of complex scientific equipmentCoordinates of the research support activities on each floor and ensuring their smooth running with streamlined efficiencyAbout You You will have:Bachelor's degree (Honours) in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field, OR an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experienceBroad scientific and technical knowledge, including specialist knowledge in Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or Biochemical EngineeringExperience in a research environment with a minimum of 2 years in a similar roleExperience in staff supervision, as well as developing and implementing policies and proceduresStrong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment, with a methodical approach to problem-solvingEffective written and oral communication skills,



with the ability to work efficiently and organise tasks under pressure with excellent attention to detailDemonstrated ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders, including research staff and students, and contribute to laboratory operationsStrong capacity for forward planning, task prioritisation, and meeting deadlinesAbility to interpret and apply relevant legislation in work situationsWorkplace Health and Safety Coordinator Certification, and First Aid skills and HSW experience will be highly regardedKnowledge of relevant HSW, OGTR and DAFF Biosecurity legislative requirements and university operating procedures, and Specific equipment training will also be highly regarded eg.
