Technical Adviser - Clinical Medicines Safety ProgramFirst People Recruitment Solutions – Canberra ACTThe Australian Digital Health Agency (the Agency) commenced operations on 1 July ****, tasked with improving health outcomes for Australians through digital healthcare systems and the National Digital Health Strategy.
The Agency leads national digital health services and systems, focusing on engagement, innovation, clinical quality and safety - using data and technology to benefit patients, consumers and healthcare professionals.Division overviewThe Policy, Programs & Engagement Division informs policy, manages external stakeholder relationships, and drives national programs and portfolio priorities.Nations.About the RoleThe Agency's Medicines Safety Program advances the national medicines safety agenda, using digital health initiatives to improve medicines information, clinical decision support, and interoperable health information across Australian healthcare.The Technical Adviser is a senior EL1 specialist providing authoritative advice on the design, implementation and evaluation of digital health initiatives supporting medicines safety and quality use of medicines.
Working with a high degree of autonomy, the role translates complex clinical, regulatory and technical concepts into practical workflows and solutions for diverse stakeholders.The role requires strong knowledge of the Australian digital medicines landscape - including electronic prescribing, medication management, clinical decision support, terminology and interoperability standards, and My Health Record - along with the ability to interpret and apply relevant Commonwealth, State and Territory legislation and policy.
The Technical Adviser also maps and improves clinical and business processes, facilitating workshops and building stakeholder consensus.As an EL1 leader,



the Technical Adviser builds organisational capability through mentoring, specialist knowledge-sharing and contribution to strategic discussions, supporting the delivery of safe, connected and person-centred healthcare across Australia.Key DutiesProvide expert advice on policy, complex problem solving and issues management for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with legislative, financial and administrative frameworks.Integrate clinical, technical, policy and consumer perspectives to inform program design and delivery, translating complex data and insights into clear advice for decision-makers.Contribute specialist technical and project management expertise across the Medicines Safety Program, including researching implementation details, analysing project data, and preparing briefs, submissions and procurement documentation.Exercise a high degree of independence and judgement to resolve complex issues, manage risks, and take accountability for end-to-end delivery, governance and benefits realisation.Build and sustain strategic relationships with Government, industry and clinical partners, leading stakeholder engagement to support co-design, change management and successful adoption of program outcomes.To be successful in this role you will:Contribute to a positive, inclusive, high-performing culture, while providing technical leadership,



mentoring and capability development in clinical informatics and digital health across the AgencyProvide authoritative clinical informatics advice to support the design, implementation and continuous improvement of national medicines safety initiativesBuild and sustain team-oriented relationships across the Agency and with Government, industry and clinical stakeholders to enable coordinated delivery and adoptionApply expert knowledge of the Australian digital medicines landscape (e-prescribing, medication management, clinical decision support, interoperability standards) to inform policy and technical decisionsAnalyse and map complex clinical, business and technical processes, translating requirements into clear workflows and implementation approachesPrepare high-quality, evidence-based briefings, policy advice and technical papers for senior executives and governance forumsContribute to digital health policy, standards and frameworks, and apply data-driven thinking to identify improvements and design user-centred solutionsSkills and capabilities (Selection criteria)Tertiary qualifications in clinical informatics, health informatics, pharmacy, medicine, nursing, allied health, digital health, IT or related field; clinical registration highly regardedStrong analytical skills, including mapping complex clinical/technical processes and translating them into practical workflowsExperience in digital health, health service delivery, Government policy or large-scale reform highly regardedExceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with experience providing authoritative advice and building relationships across government, healthcare and industryDemonstrated use of data and evidence to inform delivery and decision-makingThe Agency requires all employees to use AI in their role.
A Foundation - Uses AI with guidance level is required for this position.
