Report and produce local news that matters to the community.

Base salary $84K-$103K + 15.4% ABC Nominated Super.

n
Whale watching, beach days, a trip to K'gari or a walk through the Great Sandy Strait hinterland. Life in Hervey Bay comes with a backdrop most people only get on holidays.
n
It's also a region with no shortage of stories, from breaking news to features that surprise seasoned journalists. The ABC is looking for a Reporter to join our Wide Bay team, based in Hervey Bay and working under the direction of the Editor, ABC Wide Bay.
n
You'll cover daily news and breaking stories alongside longer-form features, filing across radio, TV and digital, and build the community relationships that help you find and shape original content.

The Job
n
n
Create content for multiple platforms to engage local and national audiences.
n
Produce and present news bulletins, Q&As;, interviews and packages across all platforms, including breaking stories.
n
Contribute to planning and commissioning processes to develop and distribute new content ideas that achieve strong reach and engagement.
n
Contribute to the implementation of the Local Emergency Coverage plan and liaise with relevant stakeholders as required.
n
Work with colleagues to identify and develop local and regional content that can be shared with other content teams across the ABC.
n
Generate stories that reflect the cultural, geographic and socio-economic diversity of the Australian community.
n
Actively engage with communities to find and tell stories that matter to them.
n

About You
n
You bring solid editorial instincts and a track record of finding and telling stories that set the agenda.
n
You will have the skills to work independently and be a self-starter with a genuine curiosity for regional stories and a strong understanding of issues important to local audiences.
n
You'll have:
n
n
Accomplished editorial skills, including the ability to source and analyse information and exercise sound judgement.
n
A creative approach to content construction and delivery, with experience in live presentation and broadcast.
n
A current and valid Driver's Licence
n
A sound understanding of the issues that affect and interest the local audience, and a genuine passion for telling stories that reflect Australia's diversity.
n
